Sugar Shack

Riverside Cabin with kitchen and patio
Sugar Shack is cozy, thoughtfully equipped for up to 3 guests. Dogs welcome.

Are you a hunter, hiker, fisherman, or just looking for a place to relax with a good book? We are halfway between Angel Fire and Mora, NM, in Guadalupita. Across the road from trout-stocked ponds and a winding creek! Plenty of places to hike and explore. Coyote Creek State Park is right around the corner. Easy access to Sipapu, Las Vegas, Taos and Eagle Nest. In snow season, you will need a 4 wheel drive or tire chains to access our place.

Sleep sound in soft, freshly laundered sheets, Sherpa-lined comforters and plush pillows on a very comfortable bed. All amenities are provided. Complimentary bottled waters and snacks for you, and treats for your dogs! TV with DVD and movies offered, along with lots of games and puzzles to keep you entertained indoors. Free Wi-Fi access, too!

Please note, Sugar Shack is located on a one-acre property with three other dwellings. There is plenty of space between the cabin and our home, roughly 75 yards away, separated by fencing. We are right off the highway, but traffic is usually light. You will find our place to be pretty quiet and charming. Jason, my husband, will set you up at dark with a warm fire in the pit. Bring some wine, wrap up in one of our soft and cozy blankets, roast some marshmallows and look up. The stars out here are breathtaking...
Guest accommodation at this cabin offers DVD players and a hairdryer. Rooms open to patios. This accommodation is furnished with sofa beds and dining tables. Kitchens or kitchenettes offer fridges, hobs, microwaves and kitchenware and utensils.

Bathrooms include a shower. This Guadalupita cabin provides complimentary wireless Internet access.

The recreational activities listed below are available either on-site or nearby; fees may apply.

5/5 Excellent

Cozy cabin stay
Had a great time for a quick weekend getaway. Clean and comfortable. Close to fishing and hiking trail access. Great price.
Stayed 2 nights in Nov 2021

Comfort and Hospitality
A true restful getaway from hustle and bustle of everyday life. We felt welcome and comfortable during our 3 night stay. Amber and Jason went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. We'll be back.

Sugar Shack Get-away!
We had a great week together off the grid!! Our little cabin was so homey and cute. Amber and Jason graciously welcomed us and made sure we were comfortable our entire stay. We would come back after a day in the mountains and find a fire going in our fire pit!! And Amber provided well over 100 DVD’s to choose from! We were sad to leave!!

1/5 Terrible

Terrible property deserving of a full refund including VRBO fees. We have photos to backup rating.
We were so disappointed with this property that we left without staying. Here are our communications with the property owner/manager: Message to host: We found your cabin and were immediately shocked by the surroundings of derelict cars, trucks, refrigerators, mattresses and other assorted junk. Entering your cabin was more shocking to be greeted by dozens of flies, an electrical system of extension cords and questionable heat source to say the least. In that state and more, we decided your cabin does not meet even minimal human occupation standards and we chose to return to our home. We would like a full refund of the rental rate amount plus other fees associated with the rental. Message from the host I am terribly sorry things worked out as they did. We had just emptied out our storage building and brought everything here to sort and place. I lost both of my parents to Covid at the end of 2020 and purchased this property, merging everything with our own belongings. Unfortunately, suddenly, I had to be life-flighted to Abq and needed a massive blood transfusion. The disarray you experienced was due to emergency and having to leave our clean up at a standstill. You must have a perfect, flawless life if you were unable to stay here. You'd have found the "junk" cleaned up the next day and you could have enjoyed a nice, peaceful stay here as all of our guests do. I wish you'd have called instead of making a hasty judgement and I would have been able to explain everything to you. As far as the cabin goes, we have had nothing but compliments from every one of our guests. It's not perfect, it's a work in progress, but a cabin nonetheless and a bit rugged by it's very nature. The propane heater and electric heater are more than sufficient heat sources, even too warm on occasion. I agree the exposed wiring needs addressing (honey-do list!), but as far as the "dozens of flies" I found no evidence of such upon inspection. In all honesty, they've died off this time of season. We have put a lot of love and care into making this a lovely ple to share with others. We are very proud of it. Again, I apologize we didn't measure up to your standards. You're the first complaint we've gotten. I refunded the portion of payment that would've gone to me, however, I have no authority to refund the VRBO fees. I wish you guys well. You missed out on a really pleasant experience here with us. You missed the opportunity of a relaxing visit by not being ope

1/5 Terrible

In reviewing this property, I will try to accurately describe my husband and my experience. Generally, I do not give bad reviews. If there is a problem, I usually try to work things out. However, in this case I do need to give warning to other potential renters. We rented this “sugar shack” for the weekend. The owner seemed friendly and stated she would be out of town during our stay but would leave the heat on. We arrived in afternoon and the wall heater did not work but there was a space heater by the bed. This kept the room warm so we assumed this was the only source of heat. We went to bed but during the night, it became extremely cold. Someone had left a poor dog outside and it barked off and all night. When I got up around 6 am, the water in the pipes have frozen so we could not get water or flush the toilet. My husband had two years of chemo which left him extremely susceptible to cold. I packed our stuff, the dogs and husband up as quickly as possible. We left for home after a miserable night. The owner messaged me later in morning. I let her know what had occurred. She stated we should have let her know and she could have had “someone” help us. I requested a refund and then she stopped responding all together. Please consider carefully before renting this place or at least make sure the owners are present in case something like this happens again. DON”T expect refund if something bad happens.
