Coyote Mountain cabin retreat, serene exclusive privacy in the tall pines

Arroyo Seco - Valdez Valley - 9 Miles to Taos Ski Valley 10 Miles to Taos Village
(5 NIGHT MINIMUM DURING WINTER MONTHS)

A jewel in the woods and privately nestled one mile above the Rio Hondo Valley with spectacular views in all directions; mountains to the north and east, the Taos Valley to the south and west. Coyote Mountain retreat, meticulously custom designed and built, is owned by an L.A. TV producer and is ideal as a writing retreat or honeymoon getaway.

Unusual attention has been given to detail from unique ash cabinets and micaceous mud walls to antique light fixtures and mission oak furniture. French doors to the covered porch on the south and the brick patio on the north invite you to extend your living space out into nature.

A summer bonus in the owner's words: "We have a portable fan that has never used. I have to say, up here at 8000 feet, We've yet to miss any cooling device in 12 years."

This very special Taos luxury cabin speaks to the most discriminating of guests looking for a total peaceful, serene getaway with absolutely no intrusion from the outside world. The locked gate 1 mile below the property insures that not even a car will drive past your retreat!

Sleeping Arrangements:
1 Bedroom on ground floor with a double bed
2nd floor "look out" room has a double fold down leather sofa

4x4 required in winter and recommended spring, fall and summer
There is a mile-long dirt access road – a couple of steep parts, requiring reliable low gear going up, and solid brakes and vigilance going down.

Escape from civilization
This is a 5-star property! The house is gorgeous, the grounds are beautiful and private and peaceful. Forever sky and views over the valley. Right out the door there’s a 1-hour hike up the mountain [past the A-frame]. And dog-friendly! We stayed during record heat, wildfires, and closed national forests – and this was exactly the spur-of-the-moment getaway we were hoping for! There is the mile-long dirt access road – a couple of steep parts, requiring reliable low gear going up, and solid brakes and vigilance going down – we didn’t use the Tacoma’s 4-wheel, but thankfully it wasn’t rainy or winter! The bed *is* only a double, and, as others have said, it’s hard. No microwave as promised [it’s now removed from the amenity list]. No al fresco dining per the enticing pictures [for our stay, anyway, the portal being used as storage]. No soft chairs or sofa [well, the upstairs futon, but too hot up there during our stay, and we didn’t really miss inside furniture during summer]. The above notwithstanding, these 4 nights were perfect for the 2 of us + dogs. Daily morning hikes up the mountain, all breakfasts and dinners cooked in [coffeepots above the refrigerator], cooling via judicious window/door openings. Allowed excursions during national forest closures: John Dunn Bridge access to Rio Grande, Wild Rivers Recreational Area visitors center and access to Rio Grande, Taos Ski Valley hiking trails. And we loved the beauty and serenity of Coyote Mountain so much, this escape from civilization, that we bypassed Taos entirely!

Peaceful
We had a great time at this house. It is a beautiful property and the location is very quiet and secluded. The views from upstairs are amazing. The workmanship in building the house was exquisite. Just note that the road is rough and steep, and the main bed is a tight fit for two people, but there is a futon upstairs and an airbed available.

Otherwise, Fabulous!
This was hands-down the most unique and wonderful VRBO vacation rental we ever stayed in, and we have stayed in many. Yes, the location is remote and presents some 'driving up the mountain on dirt road'-issues, but with AWD we did just fine and it was SO worth it! The property is beautiful and the cabin quaint, cozy and decorated so nicely. It was beyond peaceful. While I was excited to see Taos, my husband loved just hanging around the cabin because it was like we had the world to ourselves. The upper room with a view was outstanding!!! We called it the aerie. The view was spectacular. We hope to return to this lovely place. Only "con" I could mention is that the kitchen could use just a little updating, on utensils mostly. Otherwise, fabulous.

Special setting, special house
This spot is all about its own peaceful location on a mountain, If you go, give yourself extra time to just stay tight at that place, not feeling the need to go explore everyday, esp if its your first visit to Taos. We enjoyed the lovely Kiva fireplaces, mountain and valley views and long dirt driveway to amble along.

Incredible property
This property is exquisite - my husband and initially rented this house for 3 nights on a whim, and ended up extending our stay by 3 more nights because we enjoyed it so much. Here's why: 1. Location: The house is located in what essentially feels like your own private national park, with crisp, clean air, wooded hills, walking trails, and a breathtaking view of the valley below. It was so remote, quiet and tranquil that we felt completely renewed after staying there. 2. The house itself is a work of art. The attention to detail in the wordwork, lighting, fireplaces, fixtures, appliances, etc is top notch. You can tell that building and decorating this home was a labor of love (and artistry). One of our favorite things was the refurbished and very cool antique gas stove, which worked like a charm. 3. The hospitality of the owners - staying here didn't feel like staying in some random and generic vacation listing - it felt like being given the privilege of staying in someone's very lovely home. The owners are very generous about letting you use their supplies, and there was an enormous stack of firewood laid in for us. Everything from the plates to the linens to the condiments in the fridge were so nicely appointed that we almost felt bad using them! Overall, it felt more like staying in a luxury spa than a simple vacation rental, and we would love the chance to stay again! A couple of things to note: The dirt road leading to the house is steep and twisty, and should not be attempted for the first time in the dark (especially if it is snowy/icy!) The bed is only a full, and the mattress is on the extra firm side, so if your back likes a softer mattress, you may want to go ahead and use the high-quality airbed that they provide (we wish we had gone ahead and done this). The owners provide a white binder full of instructions about the house - it's a bit overwhelming to go through when you first arrive, but has necessary info that you need to know before you attempt to light the fire.

Beautiful Accomodations
The property was in a great location, mountain top!! The home has tons of character and beautifully decorated. As I read in other reviews and agree that the place needs a deep cleaning. There were several ongoing maintenance issues that should have been fixed before we arrived, not a deal breaker but annoying.
