This place has the million dollar view! It's very clean and well kept. You don't need a 4x4 to get up there. You can get up to the property in a regular SUV that has decent clearance because the road is bumpy, steep and narrow. It's close to everything you'll need during your stay.

Amazing views above a long stretch of jungle canopy straight to the ocean. Saw lots of wildlife. Swimming pool is beautiful. Peaceful, private decks with each room. Nice common area with tables and view. Owner could have been friendlier. Cleaning staff were very friendly and pleasant. Highly recommended.

The view was excellent. Cleanliness was excellent. Location was near main area while far enough to avoid noise. The drive up the hill to reach the property was....interesting.

This small hotel is situated high on a cliff. It has spectacular views. The owner is very pleasant but has strict rules. For one you cannot put toilet paper in toilet or you will be charged $300 for any damages. I’ve never seen that before in all my travels. The road leading up to hotel is in terrible shape so make sure your driving a 4x4. Other than that it was lovely!!!! A free breakfast would be suggested as there is no coffee machine and place very isolated. Grazie Marco I look forward to seeing your new pool your planning to put in. That would also be an added bonus. Ciao

Hi Angie thanks for your nice review but in Costa Rica and central america the septic tank is different then in a big city. When the pipe is blocked with toilet paper or sanitary things the plumber price is very expensive to fix this problem, for this reasons we wrote the sign in the bathroom. Our room price is less than others hotel, the breakfast is not included but available. The courtesy coffe is served on the terrace from 7,30am untill 9,30am every morning like the coffe with milk you drunk every day you have been here. You are right, in town like in many places in Costa Rica the roads are bumpy and dusty and we strongly suggest to use a car 4x4. I hope see you again on vacation in Mal Pais. Pura Vida ;-)

Amazing view
Let me start with the view which was priceless and our favorite spot was the balcony. This is a a boutique hotel with few rooms. Please be aware that the route to get to the hotel in the mountain is very rough and for somebody that is not familiar with the route then going out at night is not an option specially if it is raining. We went out of season so basically we were the only ones in the hotel. The decoration is kind of old and specially my husband complained about the smell of the pillow. It was construction going on in the hotel and improvements are in there way so most likely at least food and drinks can be found in the hotel in the near future. Be aware that no TV is in the room so basically is nature and you! Bring a book and enjoy the quietness of this place.

Good, clean property with Marco as welcoming host - fabulous recommendation to see the sunset and eat at Caracalas. The view was fabulous and jungle noises added to the ambience. Only downside is the property is about a 5 min drive up a steep hill. Think this is Expedia not the owner but not a 5 minute walk realistically, which is what we hoped for.

Beautiful property and view!
We enjoyed our stay in Mal Pais at this beautiful location with an awesome ocean view! The room was also beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable! The covered patio is great to relax in the morning and at sunset. The bed was comfortable and the shower is large with hot water. It is a short distance from the beach, restaurants and shops. The owner was very helpful in directing us to restaurants and the beaches. We would stay here again and recommend it!

Positive: The place has an excellent view, nice balcony, about 3 min away from the beach. Marco was very responsive and helpful. I recommend driving a 4x4 since the way up is a little bit steep and rocky. The room is quiet and secluded surrounded by nature. Negative: The shower did not work properly.

We really enjoyed this place! Clean, like new, it was one of our favorite on our trip! We arrived in the early afternoon and saw howler monkeys, parrots and toucans, the view is breathtaking every time you look at it. We loved our stay and Marco (the owner) was awesome and very helpful with anything we needed. Highly recommended!!!

The hotel is located a thousand feet high, I drive my car and I could not get, after four attempts arrives, the road is full of holes with a depth of three feet, super narrow, only a car can go up or down, super dangerous to fall. The hotel has no light on the outside, we got to the room with the light of the phones, the key did not work properly, the room super old, no TV, very ugly bathrooms, the owner of the hotel received us in pajamas, no staff, no Lobby, no reception , not seen. This House that claims to be a hotel has more or less three rooms. I did not stay to not put my children in a dangerous situation, I asked the money that page $540 and the owner refuses saying that I should have read before booking. We went to Tropical hotel that is half a mile, a hotel with pool, breakfast, in perfect condition, restaurants, TV, etc. for $80 dollars a night, hotel in this area cost between 60 to 80$ and I paid 135$ the night. Don't make the same mistake. Expedia has to remove this Hotel! as soon as possible!!

This kind of review is a perfect example of guests who don't pay attention to the description when they're booking online. Our internet information is very clear and simple throughout many vacation rentals websites. We are a house and we operate like a little hotel. We have 4 double rooms for 2 to 3 guests, and 2 apartments with kitchen for 4 to 5 guests with 2 bedrooms and private terrace. We are 2 stars hotel, and not a grand hotel with 4, or 5 stars with receptionists for the guests, restaurant, lobby, cable tv, piscina, and breakfast included. You booked the apartment for 5 people with kitchen, a/c, nice ocean view and private terrace and not the double room with extra bed like in another hotel where you've been for less money. Please we kindly ask you to not write facts that aren't true in this review. We are very sad when you have a bad experience and for us it's the same it is for you when you are disappointed, but this isn't our fault, and the cancellation policy is very clear. Everywhere in Costa Rica the roads are bad like here, and our house is not luxury but it looks brand new with nice details. You came at Vista Naranja with the cheapest car rental 4x2 when is better to get 4x4. It is hard to drive here if you are not used to it. I drove your car with your sons inside to show you it's doable. Please for a next time pay attention before booking because we work hard to offer a nice vacation to our guests. kind regards Marco

My husband and I love Vista Naranja Ocean View House! We've stayed there twice already and each visit has been absolute joy! The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean and the view is mesmerizing! Marco is a great host and we will be returning to Vista Naranja Ocean View House whenever we visit Santa Teresa!

Epic sunset view over Mal Pais
The view up there is fantastic. The room is very beautiful and the terrace view is epic. It is a great place to get away to peace quiet and a howler monkeys in the distance. Great owner also!

The view!
The view from our room was spectacular..,sunsets were not to be missed. Enjoyed monkeys playing in trees outside window. Quiet with only sound of ocean and birds. Walking down the hill, but taking a taxi up worked well.

A true Costa Rican beach experience
A beautiful BEAUTIFUL hotel. The attention to detail in the building and the furnishings is exemplary, Marco the owner has done an amazing job. Secluded but with an amazing view, I spent 3 perfect days here and wished I had time for more. Very Courteous and beautiful view
The owners were very friendly and helpful. They designed an elevated yoga/workout platform in the jungle, that overlooks the ocean. It made workouts much more enjoyable and provided a Great place to just hang out. The room did not have a kitchen, but the owners had the facilities outdoor fully equipped kitchen cleaned, so we could cook meals. The outdoor kitchen is covered and has a large pizza oven in it also.

My experience staying here was phenomenal. Excellent service, the view was incredible and the location was perfect. The owner Marco went out of his way to help me with anything I needed. I traveled alone and I got my car in two ditches due to the rain and slippery mud. He came to my rescue both times. I felt like I was at 5 star hotel in the middle of the jungle. I could see and hear the animals from my room. I will return and I would highly recommend it. Especially if you are traveling alone. I felt Ike I was in paradise

What a view!
This place super clean, the bed was comfortable and it is nicely appointed. The view from our private big deck was amazing! If you are looking for a place to relax and unwind, this is it. We woke up to the sounds of birds and monkeys. We saw beautiful sunsets and monkeys playing in the trees right in front of the place. Highly recommend.

Great modern private rooms with amazing views.
Helpful staff, amazing views, very clean and modern rooms. Great common area for socializing and watching the sunsets. Romantic if you're into that sort of thing... Only challenge is the road going up, but if you have a 4x4, bike or ATV (quad) you'll be fine....same goes for most roads in the area. Could use a second fan or air conditioning but otherwise no complaints. Check out the secret beach nearby and the hotel with the pool just down from this location for sunsets, drinks and socializing.

Unbelievable view and room
I was shocked I got such a nice room for the price I paid. It was beautifully landscaped, it was very well maintained, and it was very well designed. Just everything about the very spacious room was excellent. The sunset was incredible, the morning wake up call from the local wildlife was incredible, and the relaxing balcony was just perfect. I can't say enough. Of course, there are some things to improve. I expected soap and shampoo like any other hotel, but there was none FYI. I bought some at the store down the road. I would have appreciated an extra oscillating fan to help the air move a bit more. Finally, it's up the hill a bit. A 4X4 would have made it more comfortable. I rented a little economy car. It made the hill, but it wasn't much fun.

Enjoyed our stay with Marco and Nadia. You could tell they cared about making our stay the best possible. Slept well and enjoyed the natural sounds (monkeys, birds. etc.) We didn't miss having a TV. It was an uphill drive on a dirt road to reach the apartment, but this was typical on the Nicoya Peninsula. Marco helped with parking, delivered breakfast to our door, and recommended a very good restaurant. If you are visiting Mal Pais or Santa Teresa areas, I would recommend you consider Vista Naranja.

This hotel is like pure paradise because of the location. The beauty of Mal Pais is that it hasn't been overrun by high rise hotel chains. (yet?) Which means limited options for amazing ocean views. This is one of the few places in town which offer that luxury. Expedia gives this hotel 2 stars which is unfair and baffling. It's far more modern and clean than most 3 star establishments, but I have to imagine it's rated lower simply because of it's modest amenities or road access? As far as the cleanliness, service and location go, I'd rate it as a 5 star hotel. It feels safe and cozy and it's simply one of the most unique places in Mal Pais/ Santa Teresa. The sunset and moonlight views are completely spectacular. The evening breeze is utterly delightful. The road here is a little rough, but if you drove to Mal Pais from the ferry, you encountered something far worse already. I'm really glad I found this place, I would recommend it for anyone, but especially for a couple on a romantic adventure or anyone looking for inspiration.

Truly unique!
We loved staying at Casa Naranja! The place is immaculate, with a modern design, spacious and comfortable rooms. The house is immersed in nature and each room has its own balcony with a breathtaking view of the ocean. Something that is really hard to find! Marco is an amazing host, very attentive and always ready to give useful advice/tips on the area and has made our stay truly unique. The house is perfectly located, a few minutes drive to all the best beaches in the area. We are definitely coming back here!!

Beautiful sunsets to be cherished at this Euro-casita in the hills. Great spot if you like being tucked away from the dirt and hustle of Sta. Theresa. No pool, so must love day trips and the beach! Hosts were exceptionally accommodating. We will be back.

Nestled up above the tree canopy, casa naranja boasts a spectacular view of the beach and mal pais with your own private balcony and separate terrace. It's owned by the sweetest Italian couple who is always full of smiles and ready to help with any questions. The rooms are neat and clean, and the shower has great pressure and hot water. Perfect for couples or singles wanting a quiet relaxing stay. Thanks for everything!

Had a very nice stay at Vista Naranja. The views were awesome, the balcony was super spacious and the room was nice (only 4 rooms). The owners were super nice as well and helped us out as much as they could. The only downside was the drive up to the hotel, which was an adventure. All-in-all, a nice place.

The room we had was big and really clean. We were the only people there so it was really quiet. There's no kitchen, but there was a small fridge and coffee machine in the room. Big terrace with ocean view. It's a little far from the city center, you'll have to go by car. And the road to get to the hotel is really tough to drive, you'll need a 4x4. But the quality vs price is REALLY worth it!

Nice hotel. Absolutely need a 4x4 vehicle to reach it.
It is a nice, clean room with a great view. The owners were quite helpful when we needed a couple things and they have a nice setup with the place. It is several minutes walk to the beach and a little more to the main street of town. NOTE: you need to arrive before dark especially if it is raining as the road to the hotel will be dangerous. Not knowing the turns without lights on the roads make it quite risky. It is fine during the day with a 4x4 vehicle. If you have a normal car, you risk damage to yourself and the car. The hotel is nice, but the road up the steep hill is not maintained and may provide a potentially bad experience for you. If you do arrive at night, call the owner and they will drive your car up the hill for you. Keep this in mind and everything will be fine.

Hotel was on top of an hill with amazing views but you had to walk up the mountain to get there, take an taxi or rent a motor bike. No Air conditioning or television nice if you want to be lone. Kitchen was very nice but no way to get food since the walk into town was long and hott during June. If you stay for a few days you might need to rent a car or bike, it will be cheaper than taking the taxi up and down the mountain.

A gem of a small hotel
This is a really excellent small hotel. The room was large, comfortable, with a huge balcony and awesome views. It is a 5 minute drive from the centre of Malpais, which is the best place I know in Costa Rica for food. Thoroughly recommended. Don't be put off by the low price (we almost were), this hotel is as good as many that charge 3 times as much.

I loved this place! It was very clean, and had amazing views. After three locations in C.R. I finally saw a monkey while drinking coffee on the gorgeous porch. It is quite the hike up but cabs run there for only $2 U.S. Better yet, rent an ATV for the stay. It's a great location that is close to town, Cabo Blanco, Montezuma etc

Wonderful place
The Vista Naranja sits on the side of the steep hills giving you a feel of being in the forest canopy, while generating a spectacular view of the ocean. The sunsets make this place worth it. The new construction with beautiful wood accent the feel of a beachy jungle atmosphere. The owners were awesome, kind, welcoming and very hwlpful! It's a little bit off the road and secluded but that gave it a tranquil, safe and relaxing feel. Accord in no air conditioning , but the temperature was great at night for sleeping with a great breeze and good air circulation through huge screened windows and slidders. So clean and beautifully maintained at such a great price we can't recommend this place enough! Get a car or atv for your stay as the area has so much to offer but is a little spread out. So many excellent restaurants and beaches close by, Marco and his wife gave us great recommendations! Stay here, you really won't be disappointed.

We wish we had stayed somewhere else.
So much potential! Very attractive spot up a steep, narrow, bumpy road. Perfectly situated on the side of the mountain/hill, right between Mal Pais and Sta Teresa. Playa Carmen at the base. Great kitchen attached to our room, great views from the decks. Landscaped nicely. They do not answer their phone. (We were told the fellow was busy, but how do you run a hotel when people can't even call you for directions en route?) There are dark pathways with very steep drop-offs and no railings. There are no hotel employees evident except for the gardener. I had to drive down to the town to get a bandaid. You hear EVERYTHING that everyone staying there is doing. Breakfast at 5 am for the surfers, the person in the room next to you using the bathroom, even the people above you having an intimate time (clearly trying to be quiet!). This is not a spot for anyone with children, the elderly or anyone with accessibility issues. Or anyone who would like a comfortable sleep. Also no A/C, which even a bit higher up, is necessary for most of us Northerners at the beach in Nicoya.
