All staff greeted you and knew you by name, the grounds were kept pristine, great onsite massages, yummy breakfast buffet, and great location to walk to everything! Zip lining excursion is a must! Worth the extra cost than anything else in Tamarindo.
The Cala Luna is a 4.9 in our opinion. The staff is amazing! They go above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. Comfortable and clean rooms, beautiful grounds and excellent dinning. Great coordinating of off site activities. Slightest drawback might be the beach, however the pool was awesome. We will definitely go back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Esplendor Tamarindo. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and the views are just stunning and very well taken advantage of. We had a spectacular view from just about everywhere. The breakfast in the morning is delicious and filling which is perfect before a day of activity on the water. The staff are very courteous and prompt. The refrigerator in our room didn't work upon checkin so we called reception and it was fixed within five minutes, literally. The hotel staff made us feel extremely welcome and treated us like old friends. The shuttle service to the city and the beach club made our stay worthwhile because without it, we would not have stayed at Esplendor. The beach club is awesome with delicious food and incredible staff. Everything you could want for an amazing beach vacation is there. We just cannot stress enough what an incredible stay we had there. We would absolutely recommend this hotel! We left yesterday and we already want to come back! We only had one slight problem with the shuttle one of the evenings we were there as we could not get in touch with them to pick us up, but the owner of the beach club graciously took us back to the hotel because he didn't want us to have to wait until we could get through. And as for the review someone left about being able to see a "trash dump" from the hotel, it was barely noticeable and really was not an issue to us at all. I probably would not have even noticed if not for that review.
This resort is beautiful and the food is amazing. The resort staff is very helpful but some are more friendly than others. The beach is beautiful and has a lot of volcanic rocks which forms small pools of warm water, it is perfect for relaxing without being knocked down by the waves. The beach is very peaceful since there aren't any other resorts within walking distance to the resort so you can walk along the shore for miles all alone. One thing I would recommend for the resort is placing a warning sign under the Manchineel tree next to the pool bar because the fruit releases a liquid and it is like poison ivy if it lands on your skin. The liquid from the tree fell on my eyes and my eyes were swollen, red, burning and I couldn't open it for 4 days.
5 minutes from Main Street and the beach means it is close to the so-called action, but far enough. Small hotel with about 8 units. Clean. The owner lives onsite and she is way cool. Communal kitchen, complimentary use of beach towels. 2nd time in Tamarindo and I would have no issue staying here again.
We absolutely loved our stay at the JW Marriott. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was a little pricey, but excellent. The views were amazing from the infinity pools. Rooms were very nice and well attended to. We will definitely be back.
With its white sandy beaches, Tamarindo is a resort town on the Pacific coast that is backed by mountains and national parks. The sun shines nearly every day in Tamarindo, and visitors travel to the area to relax outdoors while fishing, golfing, swimming, and visiting spas. Tourists also take time to experience the local culture and fresh Costa Rican seafood dishes.
