Renovated, but noisy and in a rough area of town.
We stayed one night at the La Quinta Inn, and it wasn't a great experience. The hotel is next to the freeway, and our room faced the road. There was a construction project across from us that was active all night. That combined with the highway noise made sleep difficult.
There is also a homeless camp just over a block away, when we arrived an ambulance was picking up a deceased person. This led to concerns about personal and vehicle safety, which were amplified by the presence of a Security Guard at the front door and the main entrance requiring a room key to get in after 10 PM.
We tried the onsite dining, but waited over 5 minutes in the entrance without anyone visible or showing up to seat us. We left.
I think the most telling sign for us to leave should have been the large bowl of earplugs on the front desk with a sign that said "For our guests who are light sleepers." We should have gone somewhere else after seeing it.
