T Nagar, officially called Thyagaraya Nagar, is one of the most popular residential districts in Chennai. It’s also home to the biggest shopping district in all of India – at least by revenue. International and Indian brands are well represented among the shops in T Nagar. Don’t miss the chance to visit Pothys Palace, a large emporium that used to sell saris exclusively but has since branched out into all sorts of clothing and beautifully made textiles.
What to See in T Nagar
Before heading back to your hotel, relax in the cool greenery of Panagal Park, or explore the shops that surround it. Just down the street is Natesan Park, another oasis from too much retail activity.
T Nagar is one of the prime settings for the Madras Music Season, which takes place during December and January. Catch performances of Carnatic music, which is the chief classical music of South India, in various venues around T Nagar including outdoor concerts.
