Business trip

Posted 24-Aug-2015
Pros: The staff were incredibly lovely, warm, welcoming, friendly - in fact, they made my stay all the more relaxing
Cons: I found the internet far too expensive and perhaps this should be included in accommodation rates
Location: The location was fantastic, close proximity to our fellow media partners, shopping only a walk away, cafes and parks were great. Location = excellent
Great location to our fellow media partners a few streets away - nice walk. Staff were welcoming and made me feel at home in a place that I'm unfamiliar with.

Thank you for providing your feedback, such reviews are very important to enabling us to improve the quality of our service. The Menzies Hotel is historic, being built in 1963 thus several of the features of the hotel retain this heritage. Nonetheless, we try to update such amenities where possible, and we do ensure the rooms we provide for our guests are all well-maintained and clean. We do hope you consider us for your next stay in Sydney. Sincerely, Michael Smith General Manager

Mystery deal that ended up being disappointing

Posted 13-Aug-2015
Pros: The free biscuits and the porter service.
Cons: The decor was tired, the tv was so budget for the star rating, no foxtel or internet, movies too expensive, Discount should be in place for awful view
Location: Its about half way between The Rocks and Darling Harbour. 20 mins walk either direction. Train station across the road.
Once tiny little shoebox room for a family is not fun. We had a window viewing a brick wall. Everything was extra, parking, internet, movies, breakfast etc. for the amount we paid for one night there could have been at least one nice extra experience added in. Its not like sitting around in a tiny room was a good way to entertain the kids. We literally checked in, slept, then packed up and left in the morning. There would have been more atmosphere at a 3 star motel or backpackers. We would not stay again.

Dear Kiz, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, my sincerest apologies that your stay did not meet your expectations. The Menzies is one of the oldest hotels in Sydney, thus our rooms are a reflection of this heritage. As part of our capital expenditure plans, we will be rejuvenating the rooms, which should result in a significant improvement of amenities. In regards to parking, we do not manage Wynyard Carpark, we can only offer a substantially reduced rate to our guests. The rate for internet is a standard amongst Accor hotels in the Asia-Pacific Region. However, we do offer complimentary WiFi to our Accor Le Club guests, sign-up is free. I will be raising your concerns with our management team to ensure these issues are rectified. Thank you for providing your feedback, as it is what allows us to ultimately improve the quality of our product. It is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Michael Smith General Manager

Overall view

Posted 12-Aug-2015
Pros: as above position and initial ambiance of hotel entrance
Location excellent next to Wynyard Station Facilities nice bar/lounge and presentation at hotel foyer. Room extremely disappointing for 4.5star hotel upon arrival neither air-conditioning or TV remote or one keycard worked in room. room and hallways looked tired and need of refurbishment. Hallway continually cold. shower area not cleaned properly with dirt/mould under soap container. request for morning paper not provided

Hi David, Thank you for your review. Any feedback we receive from our valued guests allows us to target any problem areas in which we can look to improve our products and services offered at the hotel. The Menzies Sydney opened as Sydney’s premier hotel in 1963; therefore it is one of the most historic buildings in the CBD. Some aspects of this building’s heritage can still be seen in the hotel today, however we try to update areas where necessary. Despite the hotel’s heritage, we ensure our guests are provided with rooms and facilities that are neat, tidy and well maintained. We do hope that you will consider the hotel for future visits and hope to welcome you back again soon. Many thanks, Michael Smith

Glad we were only there for one night

Posted 03-Aug-2015
Pros: The lobby staff were wonderful on every encounter.
Cons: The rooms and halls are badly in need of renovation.
Location: We walked to see Matilda at The Lyric Theatre, had dinner at Steerson's on King's Wharf, and breakfast at The Rocks café. All fantastic.
Our initial experience was with the excellent door staff who directed us to the dark and dingy laneway behind the hotel to find the valet parking. The valet was uninspiring and we then followed his directions back to The Menzies via the train station. Back at The Menzies, the lovely door staff greeted us again and we were checked in a couple of hours early. Once away from the lobby and on level 3, the hallways were tired and rundown. The room itself smelled heavily of bleach, was dark, and the bathroom badly in need of updating. We had booked for 4 people yet the room only had towels for two. We survived the night. Just before leaving checking out we were subject to a mini bar audit where we were accused of consuming a chocolate bar that we hadn't touched - clearly the previous auditor hadn't done quite the best job. All up, aside from the lobby staff who were excellent every time at every encounter, the experience was quite disappointing and it's unlikely we'll return.

Good location, but noisy.

Posted 28-Jul-2015
Pros: Restaurant is good, happy hour downstairs well priced (sports bar). Close to train station, CBD and attractions.
Cons: Staff could be honest about noise - it will go until 12 on Sat. If someone is given a room above the band, ask whether they might prefer another floor
Walking distance to everything, convenient location, but bring earplugs if your trip requires sleep. Park inhabitants across the street yell profanities at the moon at 3am and live music until midnight Sat night was like trying to sleep over a nightclub (3rd floor room). Otherwise the hotel was fine, but noise was such an issue over several nights that it would prevent me from staying here again.

Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear of the noise interruptions during your stay. It is difficult to control external noise when located in Sydney's CBD, however I will speak with our management team with regards to the live music playing that late. On another note, I’m glad to hear that you took advantage of The Menzies Sydney’s fantastic location and hope to see you at the hotel at your next visit to Sydney. Warm Regards, Michael Smith

Posted 26-Jul-2015
Pros: Good character, good buffet breakfast.

Very nice hotel close to everything you would want

Posted 23-Jul-2015
Pros: Location, very clean room, very good service
Cons: More attention to the number of towels in the pool area - without having to be reminded by guests to provide more
Location: Opera House, botanic Gardens, Victoria markets, train station & grocery store literally across the street - but no noise
Staff provided very prompt to our request for minor maintenance, brekky amazing, staff very friendly
