Disappointing - a hotel with untapped potential
We were attracted to the hotel by the stunning photo shown on Expedia during a promotion. We booked the hotel for just one night before a romantic getaway to Prague. We got a terrific deal and as a result we weren't expecting a suite or an upgrade but were still very disappointed when, rather than having a room in the main hotel (a gorgeous old building with immense character), that we had been led to believe we would have stayed in (judging by the photos), we were instead placed in an ante-building that was reminiscent of a 70's pre-fab school classroom. It was old, with tatty carpet and so worn down looking. The room itself was very small but thankfully nicer than the exterior may have indicated. A sparse but clean and efficient bathroom and good ac made for a nice night's sleep.
The service was excellent as were the evening snacks we had. The grounds are stunning and the hotel is beautifully situated. There were rabbits (and a fox!) in the grounds and the sunset was lovely. That said, the hotel was vaguely reminiscent of Fawlty Towers - very few staff (though all lovely), and the hotel itself was all rather odd and unhinged. I understand it is a great conference venue and a popular place for weddings but we were told by a staff member it doesn't really focus on the overnight guest. It is a shame because the potential for the hotel is immense.
