Beautiful Family House, vacation in style LARGE DUPLEX IN PRIVATE GATED COMMUNITY: Each side has its own "name". The East-side is named "M & M" (in honor of our late great aunts) and the West-side is named "Joy of Flying" (in honor of the pilots in our family). This is your opportunity to stay in a lovely 8 bedroom home. The house has a large open floor plan main living area with the kitchen, dining and living area all occupying the majority of the main floor. There are huge windows along the ocean side allowing wonderful views and tons of light. There is a large interior doorway between the two sides making it perfect for family gatherings. Walk down the short hallway and you are now in the open floor plan of the other side. However, if the kids want to play games on one side, just close the doors and with all the custom interior soundproofing, they are now quiet (as far as you know). Each side on the main floor has two guest suites each with its own large bath including a tub/shower. The second floor is designed as a family type suite with a master bedroom sharing a "Jack and Jill" bath with a room with two twin beds. Every room has multiple windows to allow the light to flow into the home. With the need to protect the home from tidal storm surges, the home is built upon large pilings which gives an unintended benefit of a wonderful area for the kids to play. A smooth concrete floor gives a tremendous amount of skateboard, biking, corn hole or even a small soccer game room to play. Pull the cars back into the driveway and the kids have room to play without playing in the street. Join them downstairs and relax in the two-person wooden swings. When it's time for the beach, there are lots of boogie boards, chairs, and beach toys located in the lockable storage area under the house that have been provided over the years by us and by other renters for their enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. Take what you want out to the beach. The absolutely best part of vacationing here at Joy of Flying and M&M is the beach. A very short walk across the street and either left or right a couple of houses down will give you two choices for beach access locations. Our house is the one with two options for beach access so close. The beach on the West End is always quiet and there is plenty of room for your family. If your idea of a beach is hoping you can find room for your towels, think again. Holden Beach West is sparsely populated, so even at the peak of summer you still have plenty of room to play Frisbee, or throw the football. We've had many soccer and lacrosse games on the beach over the years. While in the spring and fall there is room to practice with your long irons on the beach, the town asks that we not practice our golf swings on the beach so we can protect the ocean from the occasional slice. Two queen bedrooms on each side have private baths. Each side sleeps 8\. The interior walls have been insulated to keep the sounds to a minimum which helps get a good night's sleep or an afternoon nap. There is room for the kids to play under the house with swings on each side and lots of room for younger kids to ride big wheels, etc. The house is well-maintained and you might even feel that you are staying in a brand new home. We have renters who have been with us for twenty plus years and they keep coming back because it feels like home. One of the huge benefits of renting our vacation home is we allow the right of first refusal for the following year to the current year's rental family. Once you rent with us, you always have the right of first refusal on that week for the following year at the end of your week of relaxation at Holden Beach. This allows you the ability to have your own personal time-share without the costs. As long as you let us know prior to checkout you want the same week the next year it stays yours. We usually have a wait list for summer weeks, so if you do not rebook the week might go to someone else. Prime summer weeks have families who have rented for decades. One of the few homes on Holden Beach that provide linens with the rental. Instead of requiring families to either bring their own linens or rent linens from commercial agencies like most other homes; we have decided to provide our own linens for our guests. Now when you show up to vacation, the beds will be made, there will be towels in the bathrooms and you can get right to vacationing. To walk onto the beach, you simply cross the street on a diagonal and walk down a comfortable wooden walkway to the beach. The beach has been maintained throughout the years as a family beach with little commercial emphasis. Holden Beach is still a well-kept secret, perhaps not for long. National Geographic Smart Traveler magazine recently ranked Holden Beach among it's top 10 'Best Family Beaches' category. Additionally, AAA Beach Vacation Travel Journal recently ranked H.B. one of their 'Top 30 Beaches' overall. H.B. offers a great alternative to the crowds and commercialism of nearby N. The bedrooms are all very nice in size, plenty of room all around the home. I have been traveling to NC for over 10 years annually and our family finally found a home that we all love! Very close to the beach. Very quiet neighborhood, and lots of room to spread out at the beach! Driveway very spacious as well. The home was clean and welcoming. Having two kitchens was great for our group. We also loved having a bathroom connected to each room. The walk to the beach was short and the beach toys provided with the house were perfect for our kids. We will definitely book again! ##### Laura S. The house is a pleasant stroll to the beach which was never crowded. Two kitchens and two living rooms since it’s a duplex with a connecting hall. Modest bedrooms with comfortable beds. We had my parents my sisters family and my family all spread throughout the house. The eight bedroom were just outstanding, my boys loved the airplane room and my daughter really enjoyed sleeping "next door" at the other house away from mom and dad. The ability to be together yet separate was one of the best features. We could let the kids play at night on one side while the adults could hang out on the other. It was quiet enough to enjoy ourselves yet we were still able to hear when the kids started to get "too" loud and break up their fun. I thought my kids would just start to shrivel up permanently they spent so much time in the ocean. If we were not at the beach, the large under the house space gave them ample room to play soccer and ride skateboards. The quiet West End allowed us to feel confidence allowing them to ride their bikes along the road to the end of the island and back. Anything to tire them out!! Now, the fellow just loved golf at Lockwood Folly. We played everyother day in the afternoon and many days we had the course to ourselves. The course was beautiful and for what we got, the price was amazing. The house is perfect for our family. The kids just love the fast access to the beach and playing under the house. The ability to split up and let the kids watch what they want on one side while the adults have the other living space to ourselves is one of the best touches about this home. The beach was beautiful as always. We love coming to Holden Beach during the "off-season" as it is quiet and at times the beach can be all your own. Walking the beach from Joy of Flying to the West End and back is a great way to spend time with friends and relatives. We get more talking and reminiscing done during our long walks than we ever would get on a social media platform. We've stayed here for a number of years and we love Holden Beach more everytime we visit. I especially appreciate the effort that goes into the property every year keeping it updated. Some years it's new carpet, some years it's new ceramic tile, but always something has been improved or updated. This year all the porch furniture had a fresh coat of paint and looked awesome. There were new windows on the front of M&M that were smooth and easy to operate and added to the updated feel along with the new wooden slat blinds in both living rooms. While we were there the electrician stopped by to pick up a forgotten tool bag, and he told us there were new electrical panels installed over the winter on both sides. Most people would not care, but as a homeowner, I respect taking the time to keep all the behind the scenes parts of the home up to current code. It shows pride in ownership and this house continues to reflect that. We'll be back again soon. Lee ##### Lee D. It was truly a family oriented place. The house was spacious, super clean, and well organized. The beach access was very convenient and there were supplies in the storage room for the children to use. It was great to have two kitchens , especially for breakfast, because we could feed the children on one side while people slept in on the other side. The kitchens had everything we needed. With two families it was perfect. We used one kitchen to prepare food and lay it out and the other kitchen to eat in. Air conditioning perfect. Outdoor showers were well used. Beds comfortable. Short walk to the beach on a mat covered walkway. The owner is on top of things and very quick to respond. Our only problem was with checkin. Owner has recently changed the people who keep the keys and they were not at the address given even though the new folks sent the last email on how to checkin. But we would stay there again. The owners were very attentive and professional. One of the units had a minor bug problem, but the property manager was very prompt to send pest control to resolve the issue.
