Disappointed
Have to say we were very disappointed, the bedrooms and en-suite do not in any way whatsoever reflect the photos which are on the website. This was not due to the age of this lovely building, but rather the poor decor and condition of the facilities provided, The dining room and sitting room were beautifully dressed and clean. We were asked, in an extremely casual way as our host hurried past to deal with lost property, to let him know if “we wanted anything cooked”, but he disappeared for 20 minutes by which time we had eaten our toast and marmalade and needed to be on our way. There was however a nicely well stocked dresser with juice, yoghurts, cereals, toast, jam and hot coffee or tea, however, previous reviews mentioned the glorious breakfast which we were really looking forward to, but we thought it rude to mention as there was no proper discussion about it, rather an afterthought on our hosts part. Have to say we chose the Historic Guest House as we do not like boring hotel rooms, so our review is a mixture of good but could do so very much better.

Unique.
A unique experience. Terry the owner couldn't do enough for us. The original room was not suitable for my husband's needs so he gave us the choice of 2 more rooms. We were fascinated with the history of the building and loved hearing about it.

Very welcoming.
We were made to feel very welcome. All our needs were met. The only negative was it was freezing in the rooms at night as the heating went off. Downstairs in the kitchen was lovely and warm with a gorgeous coal fire. Overall we were happy.

A quirky and very old (medieval) guest house, lovely back garden which was open for breakfast, the breakfast was excellent, host welcoming and helpful. Good location for visiting local places of interest - Lavernham etc. But do not use if you don't like traffic noise - goes on all night (albeit at lower intensity), it is directly on a small but very busy A road. And the Garden Room opens on to the rather full driveway so maybe a misnomer.

This will not be the place for you if you need minimalist...clutter free...no dust...xx Its part 11th century...and parts 16th centuary...Terry was a great host, lynnette, was a fab cook, breakfast was fab...bed and linen spotless.. will def stay again if in area.

We was sold a riverside room that sounds very nice. What we actualy got was what looked like a shed in the garden beside a drainage ditch.we struggled to stay warm all night even put the oven on for extra heat.the people who owned it were very friendly and very kind.

A very pleasurable experience
Very friendly staff very welcoming, this is my first time staying at a bed-and-breakfast. The location is kind of secluded but you can get some gems within a short drive. The morning that I left there was an owl in the tree the sky looked amazing could almost all the Milky Way

B&B in historic house in Alperton
Very welcoming couple & provided tea etc on arrival. Quirky building with loads of history and character but comfortable room. Outside sitting area under gazebo by the pond and stream to relax. Very good breakfast for everyone staying and very convenient location to explore the region. Very personal welcoming service

The Garden suite was a garden shed at the end of the driveway with a minute bathroom and constant noise from the busy road. Certainly not worth the money we paid. We were then moved to the Forge suite which was located through a cluttered kitchen and a very untidy overgrown garden. Less noise but no internet connection, a tv that sometimes worked, a heated towel rail that didn’t and a toilet seat that moved. All reported to the owner but nothing was done.For the first two days no one cleaned room then the daughter arrived and at last room was cleaned, the piles of bedding removed from the hallway and some order restored in kitchen. Garden still remained a mess and the noise from the traffic endless. Cannot believe we were charged £679 for this accommodation for 6 nights!! The house maybe historic but it is falling to pieces.

The host is really kind and helpful, breakfast was good. However it's an old building and is quite uncomfortable for taller people (above 5ft6). Rooms are low, showers low, beds short etc.

A pleasant stay in Suffolk
I had a very pleasant stay at the Bridge Street Historic Guest House. I was made to feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble. The house itself was very homely, which I enjoy although it may not be to everyone's taste. The room was small but comfortable and more than adequate for my needs. It had a shared bathroom. Sharing was not an issue as I never saw the other guest, but the bathroom was downstairs and some ways from the room, making a quick trip less than easy! I don't mind shared bathrooms but had I known how separate it was from the room, it may have stopped me booking. The age and design of the house make this a difficult thing to change and the bathroom was very large and beautifully presented. All in all, I was not disappointed with my stay. Breakfast was available from as early as 7:30am if required which I was grateful for. Vegetarians were even catered for too, something a lot of people overlook. Lots of good pubs nearby. Would stay again if I were in the area. Thank you very much!

Very homely place. Only negative is small room, and in desperate need of redecoration. But the breakfast was fantastic. Everyone was lovely and welcoming and even left some water bottles outside our door as they knew we were going to a wedding. Would definitely stay again and recommend.

DID CROMWELL STAY HERE?
Wonderful old beamed house. Absolutely fascinating history. Could be described as quaint but breakfast was anything but.Excellent choice, big portions and perfectly cooked. Hosts were super friendly and amazingly helpful. We had an en-suite, much appreciated by my wife, which was excellent although housed in a raised wonderfully beamed room!. I expected Oliver Cromwell to appear any second. Parking was excellent and secure. If you like historic buildings this is for you.
