Far better experience than anticipated after reading a few negative reviews; took a chance because I liked the location. Did not risk dining fully based upon reviews but enjoyed a couple starters with a glass of wine… from what I saw around me the food and wine is overpriced . The stairs are a challenge. I would definitely return.

Pluses: We liked the idea of staying at a heritage property, learned something of the Grange history. Minuses: This hotel desperately needs updating and attention to detail: scuffed walls and trim throughout; water damage on walls near skylights; spotty drapes in dining room; carpets needing steam cleaning; staff ignored or failed to see litter on dining room floor, uncollected soiled dishes left in hallway.

Another stay here, and I will be looking for a local alternative. Why? Not horrendous things in themselves, but the sum total really. Hugely overpriced. Evening food was just average. Creamy floorboards from nearby rooms meant annoying noise at all hours of the night. The entire hotel didn’t have a single bottle of water to give or sell, and haven’t had any for a while I was advised. However, there are a number of supermarkets within 10 minutes drive, why has the hotel not gone there and got water for guests? Laziness, no other excuse. If guests are most important, make the effort to fix this fundamental issue. The room I had was at least the 3rd room I’ve had here and all are bland, uninviting, unimaginative and dull. The lack of 3 pin plugs near the bed is also annoying when trying to sit on the bed while charging a device, which was impossible.

Lovely setting and convenient for Bristol city
We use this hotel at least twice a year to visit family who live very close by. Very convenient for getting into Bristol city and surrounding area. Hotel is in a beautiful setting and has a large carpark.. Hotel decor a little tired and some very creaky floor boards in bedroom. But it is clean and get a good breakfast.

Wonderful old property with lovely grounds. Only slight criticism we were a bit cold in the bedroom as weather changed quite suddenly and heating was not on

The welcome from the lady on reception was outstanding, what a great member of the team! The lady who was on breakfast duty, again very friendly. The grounds were lovely for the dogs to have a stretch and a run. From then on it went downhill quite rapidly. Communal areas around bar not cleaned and we were told we could sit and eat our food here with the dogs but the tables were to low and not suitable to eat at so decided to eat in our room (£5.00 charge) the food arrived a burger which was supposed to be juicy was very crisp and over done( definitely didn’t look like the picture) and the macaroni cheese was an absolute joke hardly any sauce and penne pasta. Food of a low standard. No salt or pepper on tray or offer of any sauces. Another thing to look out for is the step from the room to the garden so we could let the dogs out ( which at the time sounded amazing) which after I had managed to unlock it was very dangerous. The step was over a knee deep and thank goodness it was light as I could of done a lot of damage to myself. This hotel has so much potential, and could be absolutely amazing given a make over, it has some exceptional staff as well as some staff who could do with some extra training, just needs some attention to the small things, get rid of the bathroom extras like sewing kits and spend the money on a lick of paint and a good spruce up then we would return, but sadly we would not choose to stay again in its current state.

Fits our needs
We have been using this hotel at least twice a year for many years now to visit family living close by. The hotel is set in a lovely location and very convenient for getting into Bristol city or further afield. It has a very large car park. The hotel is looking ‘tired’ and is in need of a refit especially the hotel room’s bathrooms. Servicing the rooms is a bit hit and miss which might be to do with shortage of staff as they seem to be hard to find when needed or very busy doing lots of jobs. Will still use this hotel, for its convenience for us and because we are aware of its issues and are prepared for this.

Great hotel. Lovely staff and breakfast was excellent even as a buffet. Location is unbelievable! Chillin on a terrace with drink with lovely view is what we need. :)

The staff were lovely, and very helpful. Our room was also very nice & clean. Only one small gripe…. The cooked breakfast wasn’t very warm. The hotplates didn’t appear to do their job. Also, the rotary toaster kept getting stuck. This kept the already busy staff very stretched. They could do with some better equipment 😁

It is a very quiet location. We even saw a deer at night. Room was far enough from the event hall where guests were dancing to music so no disturbance there. The only complaint is the staff at breakfast. It was supposed to be served till 10.30, however, everything was running low, including coffee by 9.45. There were no pastries or croissants and when I asked for hash browns the lady said they are now preparing for lunch so they can't serve any more hash browns. It wasn't even 10 yet!! Not a happy start to my day there.

We stay at this hotel at least 3 times a year as it is perfect for visiting family who are very close by. It is a lovely hotel but rooms are looking a little tired. Staff were over stretched on this visit. Wifi is free and good and there is a large car park.

The hotel was pretty shabby and I don’t know if there was staffing issues but not very clean in corridors dining room etc. The person who seemed in charge of breakfast was quite unpleasant to the young staff. And the food was also pretty awful at dinner and breakfast. The room was stiflingly hot.

We had hoped for a peaceful getaway, so chose a hotel out of town. But what we didn’t account for is that the building is used for conventions, weddings and parties. So there was music thumping until late both nights. This could be heard loudly from our room which we believe to be one of the furthest from the functions. Ironically we had a more peaceful experience in a much cheaper innercity hotel the following night. This is technically not the fault of the hotel but it had a significant impact on our enjoyment.
