Really enjoyed my stay here. Nice friendly staff, good meals, and comfortable rooms. We are not talking the Ritz here, but was adequate, and definitely not talking the Ritz prices. Great wee bar and restaurant, with nice friendly staff. There are plenty of shops in close proximity. The best places to visit are a bit further out. Orkney is an amazing place to be. One slight downside was the parking. I got lucky, but not easy to find places to leave your car for long periods. Plenty to see, so you shouldn't really have your car sitting there all day anyway. Highly recommended, and would definitely stay here again.

    Hmm. See Suggestion.

The GOOD was the location (across from the ferry), restaurant food for dinner and service for dinner was excellent. Also the small attempts at 'nice' by putting robes in the closet. The BAD was the reason for the robes ... the toilet and bath are down the hall through an extra door. Ugh. The UGLY? The toilet and bath were dirty and hairy (won't go into detail) on my first visit, and were the exact same 34 hrs. later when I left. NO WAY would I bathe there. The housekeeper was around once, as she folded a point on the toilet paper and I saw her on the floor ... and saw no one else was upstairs for two nights. Nearsightedness, perhaps, in not cleaning properly? I travel Solo and was put in The Ferry Inn in a tiny room but with a double bed. I watched others traveling together being walked down the road to The Royal, and nicer digs. Suggestion: Always ask for ensuite rooms in old buildings, location or not. Would not recommend staying at The Ferry Inn.

Our room was ground floor of a converted house which is annex to the hotel. It was extremely noisey, we got very little sleep due to very noisey laundry room next door and cobble street outside. Cooked breakfast was cold both mornings and not very appetising. Total opposite to sister hotel in Kirkwall.

    Wonderful Stay

Our accommodation was at The Royal hotel. It had recently been modernized and was very comfortable. However we preferred the menus at their other pub, The Ferry Inn, a mere 2 minute walk away. But we were so glad we decided to stay in Stromness instead of Kirkwall. It’s such a quaint small village.
