A great stopover or short stay

It's not too far from the motorway for an overnight stay and could also be an good base for exploring the local area. Stoke on Trent is not far away and Alton Towers is also within easy reach. The village itself is interesting and there are lots of options for different types of eating for an evening meal. Sue is a friendly and welcoming host and the breakfast choices were excellent

Pros: The quality of the furniture and fittings was excellent and the provision of a mending kit and bathrobes added a luxurious touch

Cons: Only the very steep stairs of an old building could be an obstacle for some but a ground floor room is available

    Sleep is important

Staff very welcoming on arrival. Off street parking appreciated. Room size and cleanliness good, breakfast excellent. A short car ride to the city which has good parking. Diagonally across the road is a wonderful pub with decent meals. However, what spoiled our stay was the terrible mattress. It had seen its best days, had no support and on a solid bed base was just so uncomfortable, neither my wife and I could sleep, and in fact she is now travelling with a sore back. I have no idea whether this is a one-off mattress, but it needs to be thrown out, and the pillows need revitalisation as they also, are very flat.

Pros: Off street parking, close to the city reasonable tariff

Cons: The mattress and pillows need immediate replacement

Location: Stoke on Trent is a wonderful city full of things to see. It has great cafes and decent parking.
