I could have been a contender!

Posted 31-Oct-2016
Pros: location good , grounds and public areas very nice. Staff nice but inexperienced
Cons: rooms tired , Terrible bed
Location: Near Falkirk - The Falkirk Wheel well worth a visit, we also visited the Devils Porridge museum at Gretna, very interesting
The hotel is set in sumptious grounds , and the reception areas are all fantastic. What let this place down was the small things The room was tired, not the carpet or wall coverings , it was the wooden bathroom door was chipped, as was the wardrobe, and the area around the sink was worn. All things easy to rectify with some TLC. The bed was horrendous. Lumpy, and squeaked at the slightest movement. Had been in Premier Inn 4 weeks ago and the bed was soooooo much more comfortable. Saturdays evening meal was a bit hity missy. The waiting staff were all very young and inexperienced. They did not know what was on the menu, nor what it contained/was presented. We had the same starter twice on our table which was supposed to be crayfish, but was actually just prawns. We called a waiter over and he insisted that there were crayfish, but I know that there were none. The second time we it arrived the dish not only was it missing the crayfish but the advocardo was missing too. The tempura battered ice cream was nasty. The batter heavy and soggy. Restaurant was Far too small for size of hotel. Many Had to wait ages for breakfast, fortunately we timed it just right. It is really a wedding venue, and cannot cope with other guests not part of the wedding party.

Spiffy Hotel is Tacky

Posted 27-Oct-2016
Pros: Wedding dinner.
Cons: Probably charges far more than it should.
Location: Falkirk wheel and Kelpies
Room was 'tired' looking. What once may have been grand is no longer. We stayed one night due to a wedding. The wedding meal was excellent except for the tepid tea. Staff very attentive, except the little 'Ronnie Corbett' lookalike who officiated the wedding procedures, he was an officious little bugger. The band too loud.

The standard of service is not high enough

Posted 18-Oct-2016
I had a great stay here 7 years ago, but it doesn't meet the same standard now. The facilities are getting a bit old and the staff is disappointingly inconsistent. Some were great, but there was distinct apathy about providing consistently excellent service. I didn't get the feeling that they wanted to make my stay perfect. I had a reasonably nice time, but it could've been so much better had they only bothered.

Stunning food :)

Posted 17-Oct-2016
Location: Easy access to Falkirk, Stirling and Edinburgh, lovely and quiet area
The room fixtures and fittings were worn and the bathroom needed some TLC. The bed was so comfortable, we both slept really well, breakfast was plentiful and good quality. The staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. We attended for a wedding and the food was absolutely wonderful. The pool was warm and the kids had a fabulous time, thank you :)

Staff nothing too much trouble.

Posted 16-Oct-2016
Pros: Situation, spa and comfort and helpfulness of the staff.
Cons: the room we were given but that was sorted quickly and efficiently.
Location: The Kelpies and the town if Falkirk.
Arrived and given a room on ground floor. Which to say the least was shabby. Returned to reception advised of the above and that we had stayed before in a lovely room hence the return visit . No questions asked we were moved to another room sheer luxury by comparison.

Overnight stay in the castle for a wedding

Posted 09-Sep-2016
Pros: Comfortable, attractive.
Cons: Better blinds, better sound proofing.
I recently stayed overnight for a wedding reception held within the castle. Our room was within the castle itself (not all are, we were the only ones from our party). I enjoyed my stay and had a great nights sleep in the comfy bed. The room itself was decorated nicely and was clean. It also had a nice view out to the hills. Bathroom spacious and bright, but not modern. The bed was firm but very comfortable, with a good duvet and pillows. There were some negatives that I didn't expect and that I imagine would really annoy some people. The room was on the top floor, there was no lift that i'm aware of, and it was quite a climb. We are both fit, healthy adults, but it wasn't ideal, especially in wedding clothing/heels and after a few drinks, and taking a suitcase up. The blinds are not adequate and let a lot of light in. With the early sunrises in summer this is quite disruptive to sleep. The sound proofing between our room and the neighbouring room was poor, and we could hear the people next door talking pretty loudly through the wall. Also, on our arrival at 5pm, the neighbouring room had left a tray of finished room service with dirty dishes outside their door on the floor. When we left to check out at 1050am the next day these dishes were still there. I would expect that to be collected by staff long before then, for the attraction of pests at the very least. On a very positive note though, the food served at the wedding buffet was excellent.

good quality hotel

Posted 04-Sep-2016
Pros: The staff helpful and friendly. Dining room is really good and fresh looking. Food is of a high quality.
Cons: Fresh paint required in rooms, bathrooms and corridors.
Location: Location good. can't comment on things to do - we were only there for wedding
We were there overnight for a wedding in the castle. The hotel is in a nice area and has well kept surroundings. the dining room is excellent and the food of a high quality. The rooms are tired and could do with a fresh coat of paint. Bathroom in our room not the best. Taps difficult to stop water dripping. If all rooms and bathrooms are in similar condition a makeover is due.

Just don't expect too much

Posted 01-Sep-2016 on Ebookers
The hotel is so outdated and with a bit of money this could make a massive difference. We checked in at 4pm couldn't get a dinner reservation until 9.00 pm so we went to our room to change, had a walk around the grounds and then we planned to sit in the bar and relax until we could eat, unfortunately there was a wedding on and as we arrived at the bar around 6.30pm the bar area and communal areas were over run by wedding guests who were awaiting the room change over for the evening, I'm not sure what the me the room was ready for but we could not get a seat just to sit down and relax until 8.30pm as guests were still hanging around. Dinner was of good standard and reasonably priced. This hotel is worth a visit if you don't expect too much and get it for a good price.
