Stadskanaal is one of the biggest towns in the province of Groningen. This means there is a range of hotels to choose from if you decide to stay in Stadskanaal. Take a look at different locations and different kinds of hotels to make sure you pick a perfect one for your stay.
The most unique thing about the town of Stadskanaal? It is over 10 kilometres long. The town grew around the canal that it is named for, as neighbourhoods were built on both sides of the canal. It is one of the biggest towns in the province of Groningen and has a function as a regional centre.
Like most cities, Stadskanaal is divided into different neighbourhoods. One of the neighbourhoods you will probably be visiting during your stay in Stadskanaal, is Pagedal. This recreational area has all kinds of facilities, such as a subtropical swimming pool, tennis courts, horse riding school, a deer park and much more. Besides that, Stadskanaal also has a theatre, cinema, library, mall and farmers market.
The city centre of Stadskanaal is filled with all kinds of shops. Besides that, you will also find restaurants and bars. Most events that are organized in the town also take place in the city centre. Every two years there is ‘Verrassend Stadskanaal’, an event with many different activities, such as sports for students and a night of music. Then there are two annually held athletic events: the Nelli Cooman Games and the Klap tot Klaploop, a running and skating event with the finish in the city centre. On national holidays, Stadskanaal also hosts events. Of course there is Kings Day, and the towns own tradition of the Knoalster Nacht, the night before Kings Day, which is filled with musical entertainment. During the Pentecost weekend, Stadskanaal is home to the International Pentecost Races, an annually held motor sports race in the north of the city.
The bus station in Stadkanaal is seen as a regional intersection for public transportation. Thanks to this, it is very easy to visit other cities, towns and villages surrounding Stadskanaal. Especially Groningen is a nice city to visit! Besides the buses, the province is also working on having a train go between Stadskanaal and Groningen. Speaking about trains: Stadskanaal has its own train museum, including exhibitions and films on the history and an old steam engine.
No tourist is the same, so neither are two hotels. Each hotel has their own unique location, atmosphere and facilities to offer. Think about the activities you are planning, the facilities you would like to use and other preferences you might have. Then make a decision for your hotel in Stadskanaal based on that.
