"Brilliant, Unique and Lovely Boutique Hotel"
The Marquis Boutique Hotel is a wonderful, hidden getaway on the top of the mountain overlooking Anse Marcel Beach. The staff (thanks much to Christina, Cecilia and Ana), hotel and views are all first-class. Yes, it is a bit of an adventurous ride to get there in a 1.2l Hyundai (if you are staying on the French St. Martin side a rental car is all but a must), but well worth it as it provides a great base at the northern tip of the island to go exploring. The hotel overlooks the beach and the much more generic Riu All-Inclusive resort (thank goodness we did not stay there), and is an easy drive once you get the lay of the land to the Grand Case restaurants (which is really more of an alley:) and to the more touristy but grand Orient Bay. A must-visit as was suggested us by the Marquis staff was Friar's Bay and from there a short hike to the lovely and quite hidden "Happy Beach" We did our research but were still a bit surprised at how "raw" much of Saint Martin still is - if you are looking for an easy, all-inclusive Caribbean experience then this may not be for you or may want to stick to the more 'Western" Dutch side of the island. But if you like some adventure, driving straight up mountains on semi-paved roads and experiencing a touch of French language and culture in the West Indies, then this is a wonderful place to gain some memories.

"Good hotel, food, staff..some deferred maintenance"
Our stay there this July was good. The hotel is situated about 45 minutes from the phillispburg airport between two mountains in a nice cove. The water is not rough at all. There is snorkeling and other water sports on the beach but the snorkeling is not good there. You have to take a snorkeling excursion to find any good fish or sea life. You can kayak or paddle board included in your all inclusive package. You can also jet ski or book excursions there. The high point of the hotel is the pool and pool bar. The pool is about 4.5-5 foot deep on one (infinity end) end which keeps the young kids on the middle to the other side. The bar tenders will come right up to you and serve you while you hang over the pool wall. Iguanas everywhere if you have kids who like that. I preferred the buffet food with my family because it gave my kids choices and it was fast in and out. There is a certain amount of repeat but the food is good. Its a very picturesque setting between the two mountains. I recommend a half day trip to pinel island if you want to do just nothing and feel out in the middle of the ocean wading around. I did not visit too many of the beaches and preferred to stay at the resort and do some snorkel or boating excursions. The hotel needs some updates to carpeting and some paint on the cabanas, pool, etc. It's not a high rise and can't really be compared to say Riu Palace Aruba which is much fancier and prestigious. Prefer Bermuda and Grand Cayman.

"In need of some TLC"
The hotel was ok, but needs some TLC before it gets away from the Management. The place needs a lot of paint and especially the areas where the guests walk through every day. Rusty signs, peeled paint is not a good impression

"Nice room"
Quiet room with excellent staff. Nice to have a full kitchen and lots of room to move around. Just a tiny bit of information when you get to the airport go to the car rental agencies that you're familiar with. We went with one from the island and our car rattled and the driver side window didn't roll down...an issue if going to drive through or want to experience a breeze while driving

Upon entering our room we were greeted by a roach/bug. After killing the roach my husband took the dead ins ct to the manager and they quickly reassigned us to another room. Food was good except Wednesday dinner time when the buffet is closed.

"Great Hotel!"
This hotel was amazing! Beautiful hotel with a beautiful view. I would definitely stay here again when I return to St. Maarten. This was my family's first time in St. Maarten and it was absolutely amazing. Wifi worked fine and there is a lot to do in the area. Many places are walking distance. There is a beach right behind the hotel. It was a nice beach, but Mullet Bay was definitely my favorite (10 minute drive). A lot of restaurants are walking distance, but I would recommend renting a car to travel the entire island.
