The Sovanna Shopping Center is Phnom Penh’s first true American-style mall. It opened to great excitement and fanfare in 2008, and today draws crowds of shoppers looking not only to indulge in a spot of retail therapy but also to enjoy the leisure facilities on offer.
While Sovanna Shopping Center is on the outskirts of the city, it makes for an interesting experience on a visit to Phnom Penh. It is a place where you can grab a few bargains, mingle with the locals and enjoy the cool air-conditioning on hot sunny days.
Stay in a hotel near Sovanna Shopping Center in the south west of Phnom Penh, outside the main urban centre. Between Sovanna and the Olympic Stadium, you will find a wealth of three- and four-star hotels, from locally run boutique hotels to national and international chain hotels.
You could overlook Sovanna and the city from your hotel’s sky bar or be in one of Phnom Penh’s five-star hotels steps from Sovanna Shopping Center.
Sovanna Shopping Center is home to Cambodia’s very first glass lifts, a testament to the modern architecture it’s known for. Built around three atria, Sovanna Shopping Center has a wonderfully light and spacious vibe – different to other, more market-like, Cambodian shopping centres.
Shops line Sovanna Shopping Center’s long circular walkway, and you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to merchandise, including the largest collection of shoe shops in the country.
Jewellery shops and watch stores fill the ground floor, where you can find accessories, trinkets and gold, precious and semi-precious stones. A floor up and you will find fashion shops, men’s, ladies’ and children’s casual wear, formal attire and the huge CityMart sporting-goods shop.
The third floor is home to shoes and handbags, while the top floor is where you will find entertainment venues. There are shops selling CDs, DVDs and electronic goods, as well as a coin-operated video arcade to keep the kids and teenagers happy. Smaller children will enjoy the jungle gym and there is also a painting room for budding young artists.
