Not a comfortable experience
I am a frequent business traveler to Coos Bay and I usually stay in town at the Red Lion Hotel but it was booked and I wanted to stay near the ocean this time and one of the few places available was the Plainview Motel. It should be stated that they have three types of properties so I am reviewing the motel itself, the nine rooms in a row that feels like a double wide cargo container with doors. There is no air conditioner or fan. The floors and plumbing literally squeaked of low quality materials, including that weird crackling sound when walking on the bathroom floors. The Timex (we're talking vintage here) clock could not be reset properly, the coffee machine status light did not work so it was hot when I started it, the bedding was clean but threadbare - the list goes on. There are RVs behind the hotel, which faces the highway so there were some noises throughout the evening but it was surprisingly quiet later at night. The hotel brochure says that the staff will assist you in clamming, providing tools and escort to the beach (which was not visible from the hotel) and the staff was friendly enough. My general comment is that apparently if you really want to be comfortable around that area you should drive your RV there as I see negative comments about most of the other hotels. My fellow reviewers had rated this hotel comparably to the Red Lion but it escapes me how this is possible. My advice - spend the extra money and sleep at another hotel.
