Ideal location BUT...

Posted 22-Dec-2017
Our room was slightly dated but we only needed somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights, so it wasn't an issue. The room was very hot, even with the heater off and the window open. The reason I've marked this hotel down so much is because of the noise! Not because of traffic noise as surprisingly we didn't hear that. However, right out side our window was a massive generator/ fan system which sounded like a helicopter was landing at the side of you! On top of that what sounded like a lift was very noisey against the wall of our room, which was not appreciated late at night. The room service was excellent, timely and very very tasty, and didn't skimp on portion sizes!

Found hotel comfortable and clean. Enjoyed the spa facilities. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only complaint is the over priced drinks.

This is our 3rd stay at the Derbyshire. Staff are pleasant professional and friendly. Breakfast very tasty. Our room this time was slightly dated and only complaints is the mattres, which needs replacing, springy and noisy causing us a bad nights sleep. The carpet is threadbare in places .Wont stop us returning though. Overall happy with our stay.

Nice hotel

Posted 30-Oct-2017
Pros: The staff were excellent and the food was very good.
Cons: Needs updating. Brightening up and a new mattress is needed in the room we stayed in.
Location: Derbyshire is a very beautiful place. The scenery is spectacular and there are so many places to visit it is hard to choose.
Staff are excellent, very helpful and they can't do enough for you. The food was cooked beautifully, it was a treat to eat there. They had plenty to chose from when it came to gluten free food. The room was very clean but a bit tired and dated. Overall it was a very pleasant stay.

Nice hotel close to M1

Posted 14-Oct-2017
Pros: Position off M1, accessible for tourists, most areas of hotel very smart.
Cons: Some bedrooms need upgrading.
Location: Good location for exploring Derbyshire, Alton towers etc
Hotel very nice but our room was in the basement and had a rather drab old fashioned appearance. There seems to be a problem with dampness as there was black round the window frame. Have stayed in this hotel previously and had a much nicer room. The breakfast was very good and there was aside choice from cereals, pastries, fruit, yoghurt and a cooked breakfast.would have appreciated breakfast being a little later than 7-9 am when on holiday.

Hotel was fine but a very limited bar menu and food came out only warm and part of the chicken wing starter was missing. Empty starter plates not cleared away until mains came, and staff just looked at us like we should get up and clear them away.

Pleasantly Surprised

Despite the slow check in due to under staffed on and the card machine playing up - the feel and character of the hotel was warm and friendly. I understand it is going through a well needed refurb, the room we staying in had an old CRT type TV - gosh what a laugh, the tube was on its way out. I would definitely go back to see the changes. The Leisure area was lovely with attentive staff, especially Richard. The menu offered healthy choices and considering we are on a health kick - this met with our approval.

A property definitely in need of updating. They obviously cater for company bookings as opposed to individuals or couples as our room was probably the furthest imaginable from reception, a real route march. We will be returning to the area but would get more value from the travel lodge opposite. The carpets were stained and faded etc.
