Fur coat, no knickers. Pretty average for the £

Two day romantic break - which we did enjoy - however Old Thorns did not meet our high expectations given its supposedly famous reputation.
There was lots of building work going on near our room (see photos) - we had not been warned. Our room was right on the edge of the car park - not a great view but at least loading the car was easy! Room looked like it hadn't been properly dusted since Seve last played his round here.
Wellness and Spa were good (although the steam room was broken and out of use on both days).
Carvary dinner tasted great but we were disappointed it was self-service rather than table service for the price.
Biggest joke was the Atrium "Champagne" Bar. After choosing the Prosecco (that was on the menu!) i was rudely and embarrassingly reminded by the waiter that "this is a champagne bar!" Come on, Old Thorns - a champagne bar, it ain't - not whilst said bar has plasma tv's on the wall, Stella on tap, and every other drink available. Your bubble snobbery is not required.
Old Thorns is a good golf and spa destination, but not a good hotel and dining venue. Fur coat, no knickers. We will probably not be back.
