All great big clean room nice bathroom all tiled great breakfast nice staff BUT just so cold in the room only had under floor heating got the room to 16c had to watch tv in bed to keep warm could not get the towel in the bathroom to work. It had a button like the ones you turn lights on and then they go off slowly as it had a tiled floor again just so cold when having a shower you need your socks on to walk in just to use the loo but I would go back but only in the summer

Good country pub
Great very dog friendly hotel. With good parking and excellent food. Close to a number of interesting walks in the amazing countryside close by. Good breakfast too! Helios.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice bar, really good quality food. The rooms were huge, spotless, modern, comfortable, great bathrooms. Perfect.

Breakfast was not as good as expected. My breakfast was served with a dried up fried egg with bits of egg shell. That said overall a pleasant stay good value for money.

Disappointing
I found the room very nice. However it was not particularly clean. The shiwer head leaked badly and i had to refit the toilet seat. Breakfast was disappointing. The tables were sticky from the evening before and the eating experience was very disappointing. There is absolutely no way that i would stay in this place again.

The room was excellent, very clean abd spacious. The pub is very traditional and had a great atmosphere. Food was also good. Would definitely visit again.

The staff and regulars were super friendly. A good welcome given. My only problem was wifi being intermittent in the room of my accommodation. I would definately stay again and recommend it

It was a good stop over place for us, spacious, clean and quiet rooms, with a great pub to boot. Pet friendly, and while we didn’t have the dog, as we were just passing through, there are great walking places in the area. Good food and friendly service… exactly what we were looking for! Thanks to the Ancient Mariner for keeping the good old local pub tradition, welcoming us, and of course well fed and sheltered for the night.

Lovely stay
Lovely clean and spacious apartment. Accommodation we couldn’t fault. The pub was nice but only problem was that due to covid the restaurant couldn’t open and there was nothing else within ten miles to get food. We had a lovely stay though!

Clean, spacious, comfortable and modern rooms adjacent to the pub. We stayed on a Monday when at the current time the pub isn’t open so we had no noise although there are limited food options in the village.

Very clean room, extremely friendly hosts and delicious food. The location in a lovely village close to lots of walks and across the street from the Coleridge House was ideal. Poor internet connection but that's not what I was there for! I definitely would recommend.

Could improve on customer service....
After the last 12 months, you'd think the hospitality industry would be jumping through hoops to encourage business, however....The landlord struggled with the concept that someone may require breakfast prior to 8.30am (M-F). After making various excuses for not providing a take away solution, he eventually agreed. As someone who travels around the UK on business regularly, i always try to stay at independantly ran hostelries, and most are very accomodating.

Could easily be made excellent, but falls short.
Pub food was excellent, both evening meal and breakfast. Room was modern but spoilt by the most uncomfortable, rock hard bed I have ever experienced. Little things spoilt what could have been an excellent stay: Unable to turn down heat it was set at 22 degrees which for us was way too hot to sleep. Conversely , the heated towel rail by the shower didn't work; There was no where to hang a towel by the hand basin; the wet room shower was good, BUT the silicon sealing had a lot of black mould on it.

Ancient mariner
Pleasant, efficient welcome on arrival. Character pub, good food and service. Nice location. Accommodation in a nice setting to rear of pub so nice and quiet. Large rooms with large en-suite, tea/coffee etc, tv, hairdryer, comfortable. Only down side was cleanliness of room. Dust very noticeable under beds, cobwebs around wall lights, carpet a bit grubby, shower in need of re-grouting, new silicone and shower hose in a very poor state due to lack of cleaning! Radiator needs refurbish or new. Also at night when lights are off there was a green light in the main light (some sort of sensor I presume) which illuminated the room which was quite annoying. I prefer a dark room to sleep in. I did hear that management were going to update the rooms decor and improve the cleanliness, in which case I wouldn’t hesitate in re-booking.

Good and bad
Room was nice and large and clean. Sadly there was no hot water at all at 2100 when we wanted to shower. Every tap ran cold. Strange night lights on the ceiling of the room kept us awake. There did not seem to be a way of switching them off. We ate in the bar and had some of the best steaks we can remember. Beer and wine both good. Staff charming and eager to please. Breakfast was mediocre at best, with no black pudding as advertised and only 1 slice of toast per person! Really not sure the sausage was 'local pork sausage' . Strangely the whole place shuts down straight after breakfast and there is no way to check out and pay your bill. We posted the room key through a letter box and now have to go through the whole thing of phoning to pay bill and have the place send us copy receipts for expenses. Very odd and no mention of that anywhere.

Great for the family
Didn't get a chance to see the local area right at the door step of the hotel. Used it as a jumping point to go further from home. Nice place. friendly staff. Food was good for breakfast and we had a meal in the evening there as well. The family room was big and spacious.

Poet's Corner
We are wandering around Europe and the U.K. so we don't have any planned destination. We arrived in Bridgwater wondering why it is called The Ancient Mariner so far inland only to discover Samuel Taylor Colleridge lived across the road. We stayed in a modern stable like accommodation at the back of the Inn. The rooms were clean and very spacious with enormous bathrooms. The gardens were delightful and the meal in the Inn was delicious. A great find for weary travelers.

The only disappointing thing about the night was the staff having a party until 1.30am. The room was hot and we could not open the window as it made it even noisier as the party was outside at the back of the hotel.
