The hotel was in a good location for a reasonably priced taxi journey into Birmingham. The check in and front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel itself is a little tired and in need of a bit of an over haul. The room itself was clean, and comfortable in the main. A few observations that leg it down were the lack of a mattress protector or similar making the zip seam joining the mattresses together uncomfortable to sleep on. The paintwork in the main room and bathroom was very old and chipped and although the room was clean and sheets fresh, there was some personal hair left in the bath.

Good location. Friendly staff and reasonably clean. No milk in room and pillows smelt of stale smoke although the room didn't. Food was very average from the bar menu and we chose to eat in our room. The biggest drawback was very little sleep as we had to have the windows wide open as the whole hotel was so hot, but we were then kept awake by the sound of the trains at the nearby railway station.
Pleasant hotel with good, well equipped rooms. I recently stayed in a large chain hotel situated at the NEC, and this one was less expensive, much nicer and only marginally farther from the NEC by car. Within walking distance of a large shopping centre and restaurants. It's location did mean that there was a fair amount of noise from outside until very late, however. Both rooms had kettles, hairdryers, fridges and baths with showers. There was also plenty of parking.
My wife and I had a pleasant short break here, including a round of golf on the beautifully manicured Aylesford course. The room itself was decent enough, clean and well presented. The hotel and its surroundings are well maintained, with a decent buffet breakfast included in the rate. The staff at breakfast were not particularly helpful though, with us receiving 2 pots of tea on the first morning when we had requested 1 of tea and 1 of coffee, and nothing at all on the second morning.
The food served at dinner is of a high standard, although on the expensive side (2 courses for £28 or 3 for £35), with a £7 supplement if you want to have a ribeye or fillet steak. The staff were much better here, with particular care taken to ensure that my wife received gluten-free dishes as requested.
All in all, a pleasant stay though you were left feeling that it could have been even better with a little more care and attention all round.
Staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room was OK (although it is more a 3 stars than a 4 stars) and clean. I would expect for example a short selection of teas and some biscuits. But only English Breakfast was available. In the bathroom, not much shampoo/soap was supplied (just a little sample of each… for 2 people).
My colleague and I were late arriving but the restaurant still was able to serve up splendid food. Room was clean spacious and wifi worked well. Bathroom was sparkling although the multi head shower bath comb controls took a bit of figuring out. Can't recommend it enough
About 15 km southeast of Birmingham in the West Midlands is Solihull, a mainly residential community. An affluent city, Solihull's most notable landmarks include The George (now a hotel), dating from the 16th century; and the Manor House, dating to 1495.
