Skagen flourished as a fishing harbour in the mid-1200s, and fishing has been, and still is, an important industry for the town. Skagen is Denmark’s northernmost town and a much-loved holiday destination. Did you know that Skagen is one of Denmark’s sunniest towns?
To get a fantastic view of the area, you can take a trip up to Skagen Lighthouse (Skagen fyr). How about seeing one of Denmark’s drifting sand dunes, such as the Råbjerg Mile? Or you can visit the Sand-Covered Church (Den tilsandend kirke) which lost its battle against the sand dunes in 1795. Another interesting place miss is Grenen, Denmark’s northernmost point, which separates the Kattegat and Skagerak straits. A trip to Skagens Museum is also worth a visit, as it displays the works of many Skagen painters, amongst many others.
