Appalling room
We had a terrible stay at this hotel and had to leave a day early. The road way to the hotel is appalling and full of pot holes. On arrival at reception the receptionist was pleasant, we then got to our room, even before entering you were hit by the smell of damp and mould, we entered the room and straight away had to open windows because of the smell. We then had to kill numerous spiders and upon looking in the bathroom we were greeted by mould around the bath and on the light fitting, the tv didn’t have a remote so we couldn’t watch that. We approached reception and were told that because the hotel was full we couldn’t be moved. On speaking with several other residents they informed us of the same thing. Having had covid and being left with severe respiratory issues ( as well as having a young family) we had to use the room for the night which made us all feel unwell and our clothes stink of damp and mould. The following morning we checked out( this was due to the appalling state of the room). My respiratory problems have been made worse due to the damp and general uncleanliness of this room Never ever stayed anywhere so bad

At first glance this is a beautiful setting and the initial impression of a modern interior sets high expectations. Those expectations were let down by the room & staff. Room: not cleaned properly (clothes from previous occupant not removed from cupboard; pill blister pack found under bed sheet) - we cannot be sure the room was cleaned to Covid standards; unsympathetic staff who need training in client services & record keeping. Will not recommend to others and will not visit again.

Overnight stay
Great experience. Very friendly staff and covid safe. Only stayed one night as travelling on. Food was lovely and breakfast was hot and everything well cooked. Now we know it's there, very happy to stay again in the future.

Exteria facard of the building is lovely. The guest rooms need to have money spent on them. Could employ a better housekeeper who would ensure the rooms were cleaned properly. Breakfast was okay but only just warm. Not much selection if you didn't want a full breakfast

I booked a Superior Double Room the photos at booking showed a High Ceiling Room, Grand Four Poster Bed Open Fire and Deluxe Bathroom, What you get is an Attic Room with the softest singular most uncomfortable poor quality double divan bed with badly fitted sheet, no bedside tables and a scruffy bathroom. Very disappointing and bad in fact shocking value for money. Don't get ripped off stay somewhere else!

Very tired hotel
Very tired hotel. We were located here as we were double booked in our chosen hotel. Grounds & outside very impressive, but once inside, rooms very dark and dusty, furniture very old, showers not working properly, water stained ceiling, thin towels, chipped bath. We made the most of our stay, but not recommended & will not be returning.

Tired and low star rating hotel
Where do we start. A very low three star rating. Dirty, ripped seats on chairs, food thrown down on table, service not knowing what was on menu, steak as tough as boots served with oven chips, fruit cocktail from a can for breakfast…just lazy cooking. We couldn’t wait to get away and would not recommend or stay again. The reception staff and bar were rushed off their feet, pleasant enough and changed our room on request as we had no shower. The Manor House was nice in parts and expected given its age but the hotel could do with some serious money spent on it. Not working £50 a night let alone £102!!!
No excuse leaving a chair in this state in the room!!

Our family room was a reasonable size with ample space for the three of us. The staff on arrival were very nice and reasonable safety measures in place due to the current situation.

The room was poor the shower was held together with duct tape Mould around the tiles We came for a nights stay for a family gathering in the area Thank goodness we only had to stay one night The building is stunning from the outside however the room we were allocated was sub standard unclean and not maintained at all I would not recommend this hotel and I certainly would never book again

Disappointing for the price
My room was in the 'new' part of the building. The bed (kingsize) was two singles pushed together, these two singles were different heights and had completely different mattresses so I was effectively on a single bed. There was considerable mold in the bathroom and dirt in the wardrobe, one of the bathroom lights was broken and had a strobing effect. The room had clearly been amateurishly repainted without removing any fittings as everything had white paint splatter on it. The area is noisy at night due to youths riding dirt bikes round the field at the back of the hotel (this happened two nights out of three). The staff were very pleasant and helpful but clearly run off their feet with the receptionist having to help serve breakfasts. The old hall is beautiful historic building. Overall the hotel is 'ok' but not what I would expect for the price and the three star rating. Having stayed here before this has gone down hill fast since being sold by Mecure.

Madeley Court Hotel
Excellent hotel, really good value for money. Loved the setting and the fact it is an old priory with much of the original building and artefacts still intact .

It is a beautiful building in a beautiful setting. The staff were great, the dinner excellent. Nothing was a problem. The only comment I would make, is that the company need to invest in the driveway. There are drops on either side of the narrow tarmac strip, which itself has several pot holes. One day someone will break a spring, and it will cost the hotel money!

So wanted it to be great but sadly disappointing!
This hotel could be so fabulous. This is our second stay as its the most convenient to family living close by. After our first stay we said we'd never stay there again as we had a list of complaints. I spent a good hour going over these with a very lovely acting manager who promised to pass them on but never heard a word from anyone. Decided to give it another go thinking we may have just been unlucky. 1 towel on arrival so had to request more. Hairdryer literally blew up - flames/smoke - (presumably not PAT tested) so had to request a new one. Duvet about 30cm too small for the cover. Said it provided breakfast but this turned out to be a brown paper bag full of sachets/cartons etc. No explanation why restaurant was closed for breakfast when it was open later in the day. Damp smell in hallway. The whole place needs some tlc, some scented diffusers, some general maintenance and paint here and there to make it better. Staff need training in customer service as so half hearted. Mercure Management really need to visit as have stayed at several Mercure Hotels and this one is letting down the company name.

Please accept my apologises about the hairdryer. I will also look into the linen as this is not our usual standard for them to be short. Unfortunately we are no longer a Mercure hotel as we left the brand at the start of this year. Due to the hard year during covid and being closed for 1 year we are aware of the maintenance issues and will getting these sorted as we manage to pick up business. Lovely Grounds and building
Although the location and the staff are lovely, room 36 was very disappointing. We smelled humidity from the corridor, and we felt and smelled it in the room. Moreover the mattress was either very just uncomfortable or very old. Other than these issues, dinner and the rest of the hotel and grounds were lovely.

We had 3 rooms in total one wasn’t cleaned, bin full toilet not flushed. Rooms very dated furniture tired or broken. The young receptionist guy was friendly but other staff miserable. Breakfast was cold. Table in bar broken.

Ended up checking out and going home almost as soon as we'd checked in. Dirty, tired, stuffy, ugly, smelly rooms (we changed but it was no better). The staff were apologetic and understanding, at least.

The initial room allocated on arrival was up quite steep stairs, no lift and very cramped with no overhead shower. The room didnt meet the description or pictures on site. The second room we were allocated was lovely and better and roomy although did hace noisy cistern system. But unfortunately had no hot water. The thrid room had very small bathroom with scaled down shower cubical and not bath. The.concertina does on shower made it difficult for us to get in and out of the shower and.limited room to move ince in. My partner scaled himself trying to get water temp right but with no room to move l

Generally good.
Generally all was good. The receptionist was rather clueless about trains at a time when trains were being cancelled. The bath plug wouldn't budge and there was water in the bath when I arrived. Not noticed by cleaner. The furnishings were rather worn. The waitressing staff were underinformed and although I was given a choice of three wines, the one I chose was not available. For such a great house there was pitifully little garden and no access to the lake. Rather disappointing.
