I booked this hotel on line for the king size room with four poster bed. On entering the room every thing seemed to be fine. On the three large windows at the top all were being invaded by insects and flies. The assistant manager Natalie came up and apologised and moved us to a family room on the top floor. All seemed to be fine until the temperature dropped and I had to ask about the heating, which I got another apology and it got sorted for a while. In the middle of the night it got bitterly cold even the duvet was very thin. My wife was going to get in the shower to keep warm. I would suggest the heating of rooms is left to the occupancy to control radiators not just turned off at night!! Overall a very disappointing visit. Although we wasn’t looking for a refund Natalie said we couldn’t get one due to booking on line. I thanked her for her concern, but fair play she did her best. Highly recommend THICKER DUVETS !!

Excellent and comfortable.
Booked on the day of the stay it turned out to be an excellent idea. The room was large, comfortable and clean. The evening member of staff (we arrived at 10pm) was welcoming and professional. The breakfast in the morning was outstanding. Piping hot, plentiful and delicious. Served by a lovely young lady who was friendly and very helpful. Cannot fault the hotel. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed our one night stay at the Old Rectory. We were given an upgrade, which was a nice surprise, so we had a very grand room with a very comfortable.four poster bed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The lounge and bar were attractively decorated and inviting. We wished the weather had been better so we could have enjoyed the garden.

Beautiful restoration
A beautiful building carefully restored, attractive gardens, friendly staff. Only trouble is it’s a long distance from Shrewsbury in a village called Wen, but many people will like being away from the crowds.

Loved this hotel
We loved our stay here. We felt welcomed, valued as residents and extremely relaxed. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The setting is beautiful and peaceful. Breakfast on all three mornings was really good. Big portions , hot and again all our requests were met with no problem. A good small bar, beautiful outside space and lots of comfy areas to sit and relax. Our room was cosy and comfortable albeit a little tired in decor but we had all the facilities we needed and had an extremely good nights sleep every night. We wanted to stay longer but the hotel had no vacancies unfortunately. We hope to be back again in the future.

A very delightful hotel that is like stepping back to a charming bygone age with beautifully decorated and furnished rooms, amazing helpful staff and good food. I recommend that you book rooms well in advance as this hotel is very popular.

Our stay at the Old Rectory was great, the staff went above and beyond the call, even providing at hot breakfast for our departure at 7.30 am on Sunday. It is a charming hotel, the staff are friendly, the grounds well cared for. What is not to likke?

This was our fourth stay at The Old Rectory. The staff are so friendly & go out of their way to be helpful. The bedrooms are comfortable & have all the facilities you need. The breakfast is first rate with a really great choice. The full cooked breakfast is excellent with locally sourced produce.

Very peaceful. En-suite needs updated re rusty bits in bath and brass on taps wearing off. Bed while fits the era it needs an updated base and mattress to be totally comfortable. Lady on duty in reception and at breakfast could not have been nicer or more helpful. She was lovely.

Enjoyed my 2 nights BnB fri/sat- enjoyable breakfast and a choice of, clean tidy lounge breakfast orangery bar rooms, bedroom was pleasant clean comfortable, (the bed I didn’t want to leave it behind), Staff were young pleasant helpful and manage the Old Rectory very well, I certainly will rebook to stay here….

The staff were truly amazing from first welcome to checkout. Room was stunning as was the hotel in general. Lovely grounds etc Breakfast was really good. Proper old school, quality products served hot! Unlike most hotels buffet or not So much attention to detail Special mention to the young lady on Saturday night who also did breakfast. We had a very nice short break, all the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent for choice and quality. We found that the bed mattress was quite firm and for us not comfortable (for a short break we were ok with it). The pillows though were delightful. The only other minor criticism is that the plastic trim on the shower tray/door needs renewing. This is a well run family business and we would happily recommend it to others.

I liked the fact that the staff did everything they could to make us feel special. They did everything we asked and more. There were so many extra things in our room. Hot chocolate sachets. Chocolate chip cookies, sachets if coffee and teabags. Bottles of water in glass bottles. Wash things in the ensuite bathroom. They did room service. The decor made us feel like we were in a palace. We were the only ones to have sandwiches for tea there. There was salad decorated with what I thought was sweet peas. Our plates were brought to us on a cake stand. They did this specially for us. We are very grateful as a family for all they did for us.

We received a very friendly welcome. Our room was warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent. We loved the atmosphere of the Old Rectory and that it was tastefully furnished. We would not hesitate to stay again if we were in the area.
