Shizugawa

Considering a little Shizugawa vacation? It's time to get planning.

Shizugawa Vacation Packages

Tokyo, the nation's capital city, is 230 miles to the southwest of Shizugawa.

There is little else that soothes the soul like a trip to the seaside. Prepare a picnic, find a bottle of wine and soak up the lovely scenery of Nehama Beach, 50 miles northeast from Shizugawa. Another wonderful place is Goishi Kaigan Beach, 25 miles to the northeast.

The area around this destination is home to some splendid nature reserves. Two highly recommended attractions nearby to Shizugawa are Jyagasaki (25 miles away) and Karakuwa Peninsula Visitor Center (17 miles away).

Ski or snowboard on the trails and slopes of Namari Onsen Ski Resort and Uenono Ski Area. The first is 60 miles from Shizugawa, while the second is 40 miles.

If you head 12 miles to the west of Shizugawa you'll come to Tome. A trip here gives you the opportunity to visit Umenoki Park and Rinsho-in Temple. Kesennuma is another great option. It's just 14 miles away from Shizugawa. Have a look around town and drop into Tanaka Beach and Kesennuma Port.

Isinomaki is 17 miles to the south of Shizugawa. This regional hub is known for San Juan Bautista, Ishinomori Manga Museum and Hiyoriyama Park. Sant Juan Bautista and Ishinomaki Blue Resistance are also definitely worth spending time at.

If you want to truly get to know Miyagi, take your time to check out its restaurants.

Tourists are sure to come across a lot of beef and noodles, a couple of characteristic regional ingredients.

Make sure you sample some local meals, like tempura (deep fried seafood or vegetables) and jappa-jiru (fish gut and vegetable soup).

Those who always seem to find some space for dessert can try anpan (sweet roll).

Pull up a bar stool at a local bar and take a breather with a few quiet brews. If you ask for the local favorite, the bartender will probably recommend a Asahi Premium Beer Jukusen.

Genmaicha (green tea with brown rice) is a common alcohol-free option that one can order at any time of day.

Those who love a stiff drink every now and then should certainly order a junmaishu, a popular spirit.

Authentic traveling is about so much more than simply being an observer. It's also about the words, stories and ideas of a culture. Your experience will be more rewarding if you spare the time to learn a couple of useful words and phrases in Japanese. Ikura desu ka? translates to how much is this. O-namae wa nan desu ka (what's your name?) is also good to know.

A vibrant national celebration, Birthday of Emperor Akihito is something that you won't want to miss. It takes place each year on the 23rd of December.

As your vacation comes to an end, spend any remaining yen on a few little keepsakes and say a heartfelt "Sayōnara" to this wonderful place and the characters who call it home.

When you're ready to head to the airport, you might like to know that Sendai Airport is 50 miles to the southwest.
