    About this property

Unique People & Pet-welcoming Country Haven

BREAKING NEWS: Cavalier Cottage has received, for the 2nd consecutive year, two distinguished awards as 'Top Vacation Rental' and 'Rated Excellence' In their own words…also Super Host honors from Airbnb in 2017 and 2019, A SPECIAL PLACE Discover Cavalier Cottage B&B, a pet-friendly home away from your home and an attractive alternative to conventional hotels, motels and B&B’s. We warmly welcome visitors who come to this beautiful and diverse area of Western Massachusetts with or without their companion animals. PET-FRIENDLY WAS THE IMPETUS FOR OPENING Since opening the cottage in January of 2012, I’ve welcomed more guests than I could possibly have predicted or hoped. It seems that Cavalier Cottage has answered a need for truly pet-friendly accommodations. I could tell you stories about the wonderful four-leggeds who’ve enjoyed country walks here, not to mention their terrific two-legged companions. I could not have imagined that I’d meet such a variety of interesting people when I opened the cottage this past winter. Nestled at the base of the Charlemont hills and located on a very quiet country road, Cavalier Cottage is spacious, bright and comfortable. The live-in area is simply but graciously appointed, featuring ceiling to floor windows, newly installed oak laminate flooring, a queen size bed with a deluxe Simmons plush-firm mattress, private entrance and private deck. The fully equipped kitchen has an eat-in area with a full size stove and refrigerator (in case you want to cook-in), and a private bathroom. Relax on the private deck and enjoy the country view. For entertainment, you can access Netflix, Amazon, MHZChoice, and Acorn movies & shows, Dish TV with over 200 channels on a 32" flat screen TV, or play classic board games. To stay in touch with the outside world, the cottage is equipped with Wi-Fi. Amenities also include a delicious Continental breakfast with Pat’s English scones, a small but growing library, and a CD player with a collection of jazz and classical CD’s. CENTRAL LOCATION FOR ALL W.MA ATTRACTIONS Cavalier Cottage is conveniently located to the Mohawk Trail (Route 2) and many outdoor activities: There are great hiking trails, river rafting, tubing, zip line canopy tours, horseback riding, tennis, golf, biking, snow shoeing, rock climbing, downhill and X-country skiing. The beautiful Massachusetts countryside, with its many quaint villages and towns, is also home to a great variety of iconic educational and cultural destinations, including MassMoCa, the Clarke Institute of Art on the Williams College campus, and many more. The area is a four-season vacation destination, from foliage time in the autumn, through ski season into spring hiking time and summer holidays. Time here is sublimely tranquil and peaceful. ~Our guests are now eligible for a 10% discount from Zoar Outdoors (just a few miles from the Cottage) for all their great outdoor activities including the very popular zip line canopy tours, kayaking, white water rafting and rock climbing! ~For dogs (and their human companions, too) who love to swim, beautiful Sunburn Beach is minutes away...a natural "pond" surrounded by boulders and it's own sandy beach. ~Berkshire East ski area, just 15 minutes up Rt. 2 from the cottage. Not only skiing but canopy tours and summer sled rides. Please note: As more guests have visited, many potential guests were unable to come because the dates they wanted were already booked. Because Cavalier Cottage can only accommodate one party of guests at a time, we highly recommend that if your desired dates are available, you secure the space by submitting a deposit (through the cottage website) or by booking it on-line on this site, in order to avoid disappointment. Cavalier Cottage, a cottage for all seasons, is perfect for week-long vacations, weekend or mid-week getaways, writer’s retreats, house-hunting visits, and temporary lodging for relocated executives. We look forward to continuing to share our cozy and comfortable cottage with guests from around the world. Please feel free to contact us if you have any comments or questions. A very warm greeting awaits all who visit Cavalier Cottage. MORE THAN 2… ~ Choice of two 39'x 80' Japanese futon mattresses or an Intex Queen Size and twin size airbeds with air-filled base, both very comfortable. ~ Children 12 and under stay for free ABOUT THE AREA Cavalier Cottage Bed and Breakfast is just minutes from downtown Shelburne Falls, MA and the famous Bridge of Flowers, the glacial potholes, splendid shopping and dining choices, as well as the work of local artisans featured in galleries and cooperatives. Nicely appointed kitchen, pet friendly, safe location and beautifully decorated.

        Fall weekend

The place was in a very nice setting. Patricia answered the few questions that we had. The house was small and I suggest only 2 people should occupy the space. Our dogs were happy and welcomed with open arms.

          Perfect dog vacation

I was playing for a nearby festival and was so pleased to find Cavalier Cottage. It can be very hard to find a pet-friendly, affordable, quiet place that will rent for a short 2 night stay on a holiday weekend, much less one in such a beautiful, idyllic location. Bonus, there is ample breakfast provided and cruelty free cleaning products. My dogs loved being able to lounge on the couch, the couch being covered with a supplied cover to keep things nice. It's really a lovely place and Patricia is a lovely person.

          5/5 Excellent

            A wonderful, peaceful getaway...with dogs!

It is so difficult to find a place that not only takes dogs, but to find a place that actually WELCOMES dogs? Well, that's a rarity. Pat was a superb host, everything we could possibly need was there for us, and she was very respectful of our privacy. The rooms were spacious and clean. Morning scones and juice was wonderful! I loved that we could walk out the door and take a long country walk with our dogs. The surrounding area was quiet and beautiful, a perfect retreat from our normal busy suburban life. Since coming home, I often think about our stay with great fondness. I do not hesitate recommending this rental. I plan to come back again!

            5/5 Excellent

              “Beautiful location, spacious, super-well-appointed cottage”

I will definitely go back to this lovely cottage when I am next in the area. Quiet, pastoral, rolling hills. Take a walk down the gravel road and slow down a bit. A few miles off the highway but a welcome distance from both hustle and bustle. Pet friendly not an exaggeration, I'm sure you'd be welcome without a pet but still... Lots of room, spacious kitchen with everything you need if you want to cook, stay in and enjoy the Berkshires. Spacious and roomy enough for a multi-day visit without feeling confined. Fresh scones and juice delivered every morning, truly excellent.
