"The hotel is very remote so we ate at the hotel restaurant. The menu was not vast but offered enough variety to cater for most. There is a huge hotel bar and hotel reception which offers plenty of seating. Rooms are fairly basic but sufficient for an overnight stay Would use again if in the area Pretty stream and waterfall immediately outside reception."

"Very authentic but needs a refresh without losing its historic authenticity. Needs elevator and trailheads are too far (1 1/2 miles to Old Corpse Road trailhead) - needs trailhead right behind hotel. Dinner menu not good — very fancy, very narrow, might be popular in Knightsbridge or Kensington but not in mountains where people out and about and craving hearty meal at end of day- the “bread” was ridiculous."

"I have used this hotel four times this last year as a stopover for trips from south Devon to Scotland and overall have been pleased with the facilities and service provided. Meals have been excellent and the rooms comfortable and clean. My only concern has been with the service in the dining room: the staff are all delightfully friendly and welcoming but on each of my visits service has been very slow - it took 40 minutes last night for drinks we’d ordered to arrive and our meals a further 10. We weren’t the only ones waiting far too long. I’m sure some training or perhaps a shake up of procedures in the kitchen itself might help. Having driven over 350 miles yesterday I didn’t appreciate being kept waiting so long for my dinner! "

"Beautiful location if you want to relax and unwind. No shop or pub in village but other villages and towns close enough. Lovely cottage and garden with everything you need. Sheep get to wander and eat on the village green, great to see theor freedom. Visited nearby Appleby, lovely town and dog friendly. Loved it."

"Fantastic week away at the old mill. Beautiful secluded location and we loved watching the trains go by. Penrith a very short drive away probably 15 mins and same for pooley bridge/ullswater which is beautiful. Lots of restaurants and pubs nearby to eat out at. We arrived on the Saturday, heating was on and we found everything to be very clean and tidy. We didnâ€™t really need to buy anything i.e washing up liquid, toilet roll etc. someone has also kindly cut up lots of logs and kindling for the fire. We were also greeted with a bottle of wine and a box of shortbread which was a nice touch. Highly recommended!"

"I've stayed in countless holiday apartments and cottages throughout the Lakes and would say that I enjoyed the view and the quiet from Chapel Cottage the most.On a clear crisp February morning, the village below with the backdrop of the other side of the valley is stunning.The cottage has everything you need. It is more traditional that flash so don't expect absolute luxury but it's super cosy downstairs but has a spacious kitchen and three double bedrooms, one with an ensuite.Askham is just over a mile away with two great pubs and the Michelin restaurant at Askham Hall. That said, the Queens Head now only does pizzas and Askham Hall is up for sale. Had a couple of solid 'pub grub' meals at the Punchbowl.Plenty of walks- Pooley Bridge is about 4 miles away, there are the eastern fells to explore, Haweswater/Bampton and a nice walk along the river Lowther to Askham and beyond.I usually like to try different properties but this is one I would return to in the spring or summer to sit out the front and have a glass of wine with that amazing view."

"Beautiful cottage with everything you could need and more. The house is tastefully decorated with quality furnishings and fittings. Itâ€™s in a Quiet location with an excellent pub serving good food nearly next door and a village store and cafe over the road. The hot tub is an added bonus after walking miles in the beautiful scenery."
