I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. I had thought that I had done my research well & read enough reviews, but I was clearly very wrong. This was my first ever trip to Italy. I didn’t know what is considered “city centre” so I had to put my trust in the travel blogs I read & the information from the places I was looking to stay. That was a huge mistake when it came to The Gate Hotel. It was not until I got to Florence was I told that many locals consider the Duomo to be the centre & that The Gate Hotel was quite far from the centre. It’s an approx. 26 mins cab/taxi ride or you can take two busses which will take approx. 50 mins of your time. When we got to the hotel, our driver came in to actually try to help us get a refund & find other accommodations. The staff at the front desk was not helpful whatsoever. She kept repeating the same thing over & over, stating that there was nothing that could be done for us. When asked if there was anyone else we could speak to, she said no and told us to email her director. When asked if it was perfectly okay to advertise misleading information, she once again repeated there was nothing she could do to help. It was only two nights and had been paid, so we all decided to stay. Upon check-out, the staff was utterly rude & racist. I had stood in line, waiting. The male staff member helped the two white ladies behind me, even though they both mentioned I was ahead of them. Not to mention their previous response to my check-in review!
