Trying to be hip but actually tired
The Motif tries hard to be a modern, hip hotel, with bright colors, contemporary decor, and trendy music. However, this effort falls short of being convincing, in part because the lobby, hallways, elevators, and other common spaces are worn and in need of refurbishment. Also, the front desk staff is poorly trained; it took me far longer to check in than it should have and the agent never asked if I was using the self park. This forced me to come back to the desk from the parking lot to get my key card validated for entry and exit. On the positive side, the rooms were spacious and nicely appointed. The one exception was the absence of a walk-in shower, which I believe should be a prerequisite for a 4 or 5 star rating.
