"So far off the beaten path, so worthwhile "
If you are planning to visit Lochness, chances are you won't see the monster, but staying at this B&B will make up for that disappointment. The hosts are wonderfully nice, friendly, and helpful and the rooms are pristine. The whole experience of staying here was perfectly lovely. Just be prepared to drive on some very narrow roads, i.e. one lane with "passing places." Roads of this type seem to be quite common in the highlands, but they aren't so terrifying after a few miles.

"Great location near city center and train station "
Perfect location for seeing Inverness or transition to Highlands travel. Well maintained period hotel. Room heater was poor but front desk delivered excellent portable unit within five minutes of request. Adjacent bar and restaurant are top notch - used by local non-hotel guests.

"Recommended"
We stayed here before an after a tip to the Orkneys. The Hotel is very handy to Thurso and it was no bother to get here with our rental after the ferry to Scrabster. The front desk and restaurant / bar staff were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The meals were beautiful. The wifi was a bit flakey but a change of rooms fixed that, and there was no lift, but that's probably not unusual. Recommended.

The Holly Tree Hotel

Kentallen Pier, Appin - Map

"A real Highland surprise"
Although some miles from major centres, the Holly Tree makes up for this by having an excellent restaurant - Seafood mainly but enough choice to suit others - and caring, friendly, staff. Our stay at the Holly Tree has been the highlight of our holiday and we (reluctantly) recommend it to anyone travelling in the Oban/Glencoe/Fort William area. (We're only reluctant because it was hard enough to get in there and we've probably made it even harder to get a room now by recommending it!). The rooms, restaurant and bar all face out over Loch Linnhe and present beautiful and ever-changing views as the light moves through the day and evening.
