A mediocre hotel with wonderful possibilities

Posted 27-Apr-2016
Pros: I liked the space available in the front lounge. It was warm. Staff were extremely helpful. The cost for 1 night dinner, bed& breakfast was good.
Cons: The dining room most certainly.
Location: Wonderful location- walking , skiing, sailing, cycling, swimming to name but a few. In as much as I was only there for 1 night I cannot name more.
This hotel is has changed greatly in the last 15 years. It definately needs updating. My main complaint is the dinning room which is quite the grimmest restaurant I have ever been in especially at breakfast time. It is in a wonderful situation overlooking the Cairngorms, near Loch Morlich. It is a shame it's full potential has not been exploited.

From first arriving the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast buffet was to a high standard with the kids really liking the make your own waffles. Well situated with great facilities.

Fantastic hotel for families

Posted 04-Apr-2016
Pros: Buffet food was excellent. Swimming pool was great fun and warm. The family room with the bunk beds. Fun house for a rainy day. Location
Cons: The room was uncomfortably hot, but leaving the windows open was the solution. It's the first time I'd have to say I wasn't comfy with a hotel bed
Location: Cairngorm fanicular railway up to the UK's highest restaurant Landmark great family day out Loch Morlich Reindeer centre
Perfect for a family break with loads of things to do with the children.

Convenient for Cairngorm mountain

Posted 27-Feb-2016
Pros: Location and the Woodshed bar.
Cons: Rooms need a refurb.
Location: Close to Cairngorm mountain, not far from Cairngorm Reindeer herd, Loch Morlich. About 15 mins walk to Aviemoew village centre.
Good location not far from the slopes. Good for families, accept dogs in hotel rooms as well as lodges. Good dining options, great ski hire facilities. Love the Woodshed apres ski bar, adults only in the evenings. Rooms are a bit tired though could do with a refurb.

Convenient for activities

Posted 08-Feb-2016
Pros: Convenient location
Cons: Toddlers running around the bar at 22.00 hours
Location: The sled dogs are well worth a visit. Rothiemurchas estate is close by and has lots of activities too
We stayed one night as it was the closest hotel for us to access a dog sled experience which we had booked. We enjoyed the Italian buffet meal in the evening and breakfast was good too. Aviemore centre is walking distance away. The swimming pool was nice and quiet early in the morning

Dated rooms. Uncomfortable beds. Too many kids running around the hotel at night.

Birthday get together

Posted 25-Jan-2016
Pros: Large open foyer is great place to sit & meet up with friends & family. Great stay for families with children, plenty to do, great walks with dog.
Cons: Service at meals, breakfast on other hand is brilliant.
Location: Play house and outdoor play facilities are great. Good walks for dogs. Close to Aviemore within walking distance.
Met up with family members to celebrate my husbands 65th birthday, altogether 6 double or family rooms booked for this event. Meal all together let the overall stay down as it seemed that the staff just could not cope with a large table of guests. Took approximately 3 hrs with long waits between courses and with one of us having to find someone to take order, same with drinks, had to keep looking for someone to take order. Cake was forgotten & one of our guests went to kitchen to find what had happened to it but it was much too late by then.

Will be back soon

Hotel corridors and swim changing rooms a bit scruffy and need attention but the rest of the hotel was lovely. We will be back for a stay in the lodges soon.

Nice and close to the centre of Aviemore

Posted 09-Jan-2016
Pros: It is very friendly and also liked that it is animal friendly.
Cons: Possibly a light colour of paint on the walls on the stairs of the hotel. The maroon colour was a bit drab.
Location: The location of the hotel was ideal for walkers, as there is a woodland with access for walks right across the road from the hotel.
The hotel staff were very pleasant and keen to help all guests.
