good value

Posted 22-Dec-2015
Pros: Staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. Breakfast was not included in my package but was only £7 extra. Breakfast was very good.
Location: town centre location
I would definitely recommend this hotel for a comfortable overnight stay at what was a very reasonable price for myself. I was on single occupancy but was "upgraded" to a double. Room 7 was more than adequate but a bit tired and had coomb ceilings so watch your head.

The only drawback was that the view from my room was of the wall of the hotel.

one night stay. area beautiful, hotel lovely, staff great. rooms tired and could do with upgrading. Shower very poor and tv didn't work. Would stay again as area great for outdoor activity and tv isn't the most important thing in life. Read a book instead!

Decent bedroom - shame about the dining room

Posted 13-Jul-2015 on Hotels
Hotel centrally located in Peebles. Decent shower, comfy bed, clean room. Cooked breakfast was very average and I was completely put off eating there having sat next to one of the arched windows which had dead flies on the sill. I was going to bring it to the attention of the staff but they appeared disconnected from there customers. Didn't have evening meals there so can't comment on the dinners. Over rated on stars and overpriced.

Most Comfortable Bed in Scotland!

Posted 06-Jul-2015 on Hotels
We stayed one night at the Tontine Hotel in Peebles, Scotland. The location of this hotel is in the center of town. We happened to arrive during the annual Beltane festival. The main street was closed – which made it very tricky getting to the hotel itself. They have very limited parking … only 2 spaces in the front of the hotel! There is a back lot (which is where we wound up) that is downhill accessible by a very steep, narrow alley way. The hotel has a back entrance, but no elevator. Fortunately, the front desk clerk helped us walk our 3 suitcases back up the alleyway (a 2-story climb). After checking in, we learned that our room was up one long and 2 short staircases! Again, the desk clerk helped with the cases. Fortunately, the room was worth the trip. It was small but decorated tastefully in plaids. It had 2 sitting chairs and a desk with a chair as well as the bed but there was very little room around these. The bathroom was a nice size and was quite clean with a great shower. The bed and pillows were the BEST we had in Scotland. Extremely comfortable. The bathroom amenities were great too – all natural ingredients. Being on the main street meant we had a bit of noise from the celebration until about 11 PM, then all settled down. They have a restaurant but we decided to explore the town. A very pleasant stay at the Tontine!
