2 nights at Hotel Glymur

Posted 04-May-2015 on Hotels
Hotel was very charming, beautifully situated rooms so that the large picture window in all rooms look over the fjord. The restaurant was fabulous and the hot tubs a wonderful treat at the end of the evening. The staff was very pleasant and helpful and checked road conditions for us at every opportunity. We will definitely return here!

Great Experience!

Hotel was very comfortable with outstanding scenic views from the room. The Hotel Manager, Ragna, was so helpful in suggesting nearby places for us to visit. Overall it was a great experience.

Quirky hotel in fantastic location

Posted 30-Mar-2015 on Hotels
Stayed for 2 nights on a trip to Iceland. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was hearty fair, with the breakfast buffet particularly good. The location is fantastic no matter the weather. We saw the Northern Lights - it was great location for it. Big skies. Only down side was the room which was on 2 levels but a bit small and could do with a bit of investment.

Great Little Hotel

Posted 07-Jan-2015 on Hotels
Spent two nights at Hotel Glymur - hoping to see Northern lights - but without success unfortunately (they do offer a wake up service if the Northern Lights appear at night). Lovely hotel with a slightly wacky and bohemian feel to it - staff were great - nothing too much trouble. Beautiful but isolated location - long drive of you ant to eat anywhere other than the hotel. Food excellent but quite expensive (but ten it is everywhere in Iceland). Decent breakfast included in the room rate. The only issue I had was with the lighting throughout the hotel - it's very gloomily lit - which amazed me for country where it's dark half the year.

Second time there still great

Pros: Location
Location: Easy access to the national parks, penisula and Reykjavik.
A great location north of Reykjavik. Beautiful setting and love the hot tub sitting in the hill. The whole hotel has a rustic feel. The food was five star

Best nights in Iceland

Posted 02-Jan-2014 on Hotels
Stayed at four different hotels in Iceland and this one is the best. Room had a loft with bed. TV and couch downstairs. Lots of choices for breakfast. Dinner was very expensive for small portions and did not have many choices. They have a wake up service in case the northern lights appear, although we didn't see them for the 6 nights in iceland. Hot tub was too hot to use. Overall, amenities and comfort make this a very nice hotel. No gas stations or restaurants nearby.

Lovely, quirky with fab views

Posted 16-Dec-2013
Pros: The remoteness, the ambience and the staff.
Cons: For the price, it would have been nice to have individual shampoos / shower gels / etc, rather than a bottle stuck on the wall.
Location: Hiking up to the waterfall was very scenic and a good walk.
I was, initially, reluctant to book, as I felt it was expensive compared to the city centre hotels. However, having stayed there, I understand now. It is a lovely, relaxing environment with great views. Our few days were spent having a drink in the lounge, looking out over the bay. Relaxing in the hot tub, looking out over the bay. Reading in our room, looking out over the bay. As we were doing a lot of walking during the day, it was a lovely place to return to. The breakfast was fine. Spoiled a little by some very "grabby" guests who basically, cleared out the buffet and then sat on top of us at the table we had chosen! But that's not the hotel's fault. The food in the evening was beautifully cooked and really delicious. We chose it because there was a wake up call if the Northern Lights were visible. Unfortunately, it was too cloudy. Guess we'll just have to go back again!
