Second time of staying here after a six year gap. Nothing changed really at all. The gardens are superb and that is where the money goes I think. The reception area and front are old style marble but make a great first view. However, the rooms are a bit grim.
Very old world with dark wood, dark furnishings, green everywhere and no plugs where you need them. The bathroom has a shower in the bath, but it is handheld . Something I’ve not seen for many years. Breakfast was a mixed affair. Fresh fruit and yoghurt, pastries, cereals ,fruit juice etc. The hot food was not good at all. Buffet style tin things with bacon in one, small mini cocktail sausage in another, scrambled egg and mushrooms in another. All lukewarm or cold . I found out on the last day that you could potentially ask for a different cooked egg , like fried or poached. Never saw a tomato for 10 days . It felt like you got the bare minimum that they could get away with. I felt a bit sad as the staff were superb on Reception and AnaRita at breakfast was brilliant. There are not a lot of hotels around Tomar and they are quite small in comparison. It will remain popular with travellers as it is near the famous monuments and sights.
