I spend quite a bit of time away from home in Santa Cruz and have been very impressed by Hotel Paradox. The rooms are very clean, comfortable, and very nice in general. The restaurant and bar is awesome. The pool area is always clean and very nice to have the extension of the bar serving you drinks as you enjoy the sun. The Hotel Paradox is DEFINITELY worth your money.
The attendant was very nice and accommodating. The room itself was not great but what do you expect for $85. Everything is walking distance and it is located by great surf spots. I would stay again to go surfing. My room had an ocean view. Room 212-214 have pretty good views. It also very quiet. The room itself is a little dated and could maybe be a little cleaner. The breakfast needs some serious improvement. Very few options and coffee is terrible. Overall my stay was pleasant. I would stay there again.
Small room and bath. Perfect for what we needed. Room was hot perhaps the heater was stuck on, I turned the thermostat down but still hot. I didn't call the desk to ask for repairs so it falls on me. I was too tired to do anything about it so I lived with it.
You are not paying for the room. When the caulking and fixtures are better in your own house then you expect a 99 dollar room not a 300 dollar room. The grounds and service are great. Food is excellent. But management is not paying to keep the rooms state of art and as clean as you would want for a hotel this price. Carpets in hallways were dirty, room carpet was near end of useful life, and bathroom caulking was old and dirty. For the price and location, this room should have had a high end laminate floor, clean white caulking, and brighter lights. You could not read with the dull lighting in the room and in lamps. And on first floor the sliding glass door has no locks. No way to leave slider open a bit for fresh air with no fear of theft.
It was not a bad hotel but it was hot the weekend we were there and they have no air conditioning. They do provide a fan but it was still too hot. The grounds could use some work and the vending machine was not working. The staff was friendly and attentive. They do have a restaurant attached to the front desk which was convienient. It was also centrally located but still away from all the crowds.
The mighty Pacific serves as center stage and backdrop for all things leisure in Santa Cruz. Its boardwalk offers rollercoaster thrills with bay views. Down Beach Street, the city wharf is a prime fishing and whale-watching spot. Nearby, surfers near and far head to Steamer Lane to catch monster waves. Downtown’s charming Pacific Avenue plays hosts to land lovers with its local shops and cafes.
