Top Sangser Forest Hotel Reviews

Udaan Dekeling Resort Darjeeling

10/10 Excellent

"The property was well maintained and 15mins walking distance to the mall road. The rooms was nicely done with modern style, although more wardrobe space could be given. The Balcony view was amazing, with Singalila national park on the left and the might Mt. Kanchenjunga on the right. The restaurant was fully vegetarian, which was great for us, with amazing breakfast buffet options, lunch, snacks and dinner choices. The food was amazing. The staff, specially Abhinay at the Reception and Krishan in the restaurant took great care of us. The whole staff was polite, courteous and always asked if we needed anything during the stay."

Windamere Hotel

"Great"

Udaan Himalayan Suites and Spa

10/10 Excellent

"They didn't have laundry services, which I think would be a good basic addition. Everything great otherwise! Definitely get the rooms facing the north west out over the valley."

Hotel Basera

10/10 Excellent

"Food is excellent, and staff are very very good"

Sterling Darjeeling

10/10 Excellent

"Sterling Darjeeling is a great place to stay for a trip to the area. The location is much better than anything close to the mall. You can avoid all the traffic and noise of central Darjeeling. Views of the valley and surround mountains are great. The staff is very helpful. If you’re traveling from the airport, you will get to the property much faster (hours) than any place close to the mall because of all the traffic even though it’s only a few kilometers away. I would highly recommend Sterling Darjeeling."

Planter's Heritage by Cilantro Collections - Mall Road

8/10 Good

"The staff were great. The location was perfect and close to main Darjeeling mall. The floors in the room and multiple junctions in the lobby area are uneven which may cause discomfort and extra attention especially for elderly people."

Moustache Hostel Gangtok

10/10 Excellent

"Excellent hostel "

The Elgin, Darjeeling

10/10 Excellent

"Building is amazing perched on the hillside and the staff were lovely."

Lemon Tree Hotel Gangtok

10/10 Excellent

"Rooms are heated. Staff is very friendly and very helpful. Provided room service when needed and very timely"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Sangser Forest?

The best area to stay in Sangser Forest is the region immediately surrounding the forest entrance, particularly the small villages and eco-resorts located just outside the protected area. This area provides the most convenient access for exploring the forest. It's characterised by its proximity to nature, with many accommodations offering views of the surrounding hills and lush greenery. The main road leading to the forest entrance often has a few local shops and eateries. For nature enthusiasts and those seeking a tranquil retreat, staying in one of the eco-resorts or homestays is ideal. These properties often arrange guided forest walks, birdwatching tours, and visits to nearby waterfalls or tribal villages. Many offer comfortable stays with modern amenities, allowing you to relax after a day of exploration.Couples looking for a peaceful getaway will appreciate the secluded atmosphere of these accommodations. They often feature private balconies and opportunities for stargazing, providing a romantic setting away from the hustle and bustle.

When is the best time to go to Sangser Forest?

The best time to go to Sangser Forest is during the dry season, from November to April, to ensure comfortable exploration and optimal wildlife viewing.During these months, the weather is pleasant, with less humidity and virtually no rain, making it ideal for safaris and jungle walks. The forest paths are dry and easily navigable, and the reduced water sources mean wildlife tends to congregate around the remaining ponds and rivers, making them easier to spot. For those looking to maximise their chances of seeing the varied wildlife, including the Bengal tiger, the cooler months of November to February are particularly good. The daytime temperatures are mild, superb for spending extended periods outdoors, and the vegetation is less dense, improving visibility. If you prefer slightly warmer weather and are interested in birdwatching, the period from March to April is excellent. Many migratory birds are still present, and the forest is alive with activity as animals prepare for the monsoon season.
