Unbeatable location with sand and beach in your backyard
The location is spectacular given you can walk into sandy beach right outside the backdoor. The parking, ease of getting to the house, the check in process, the communication with the property manager were all smooth. The house could use updates, and given the proximity to the beach and wind, it is hard to keep it clean/ keep the sand off the house.

Always a great stay!
I have used this property many times over the years for work trips (care facility vacations). This time it was for a little vacation for my family. As always Nell was awesome, the house was great and the views! We loved sitting on the beach, kids had a blast making smores around the bonfire. Plenty of room for play and the ocean is at your back door. Can't wait to return!

Amazing property and views!
Our family enjoyed the property. We were very satisfied with everything. The jacuzzi was very outdated but we were able to still use. The views of the beach ocean and sunset were breathtaking. The property owner welcomed us when we got there. A lot of towels, a lot of seating areas and everything was so clean. We enjoyed the fire pit and watching those driving up to the dunes. Our pets approved the place. Near by stores. Minutes away from the pier and monarch camp of hwy 1 from the house. The breeze from outside was enough to keep the house cool. The BBQ slow burners hard to cook a lot of meat. We had lots of fun staying at the property. Two parking spot for the property and the property was adorable. We will certainly be recommending the place to our friends and family. We will definitely be coming back.

Beautiful location and amazing host
The location of the house is absolutely gorgeous and the house has so much character. The pictures do not do it justice! Short drive to nearby beach cities and local grocery stores. The house is outdated, but other than that we had an excellent stay and Nell is very helpful. It should be noted that the hot tub is shared between the two houses. We came during a storm so we were not able to use it. Some extra check in details would be helpful for new guests. We would love to come back when the weather is nicer! Thank you very much for having us.

Great location to stage playing in the dunes!
We play in the Oceano Dunes every year so our group rented the front half and the back half of this property. It is super close to the Pier Street entrance and during the day we could park our rigs on the beach and walk up to the house for lunch, etc. Great sunset views and the firepit is right out front which was fun for the group. We were able to enjoy the BBQ and there is even a Santa Maria grill but we didn't use it. Next time! Nell, the owner, was a pleasure, her property is a definite crowed please and will stay here again.

Rated 4 stars on check in because cleaning was still there when we walked in at 4:05pm. She was very nice and attentive. I pointed out that the garbage bins were full. She called the owner and let us know it would be emptied by the next morning. The house is always clean when we arrive. we are a return family and consider The Sanddollar our vacation home. Plenty of tables and chairs in the backyard (the beach) as well as the campfire area. The kitchen is fully equipped. It has everything you need to cook meals for the family. We love Pismo because of this place. Thank you for sharing your home with us. 2 things that need attention but still work: 1. Master bathroom sink drains very slow. 2. Refrigerator is pretty loud. Maybe needs a tune up or be replaced.

All 5 stars not because it’s new, it is old and funky but clean. Perfect for people watching, hanging at the fire pit, getting out on the Dunes which we did. Unit in front is a little close for my liking. If you come to stay inside and are fussy, go somewhere else. Come to have a good time and be out on the beach etc, fun place.

You can't get closer to the beach than this!
Our family enjoyed our visit to the Sanddollar over Labor Day weekend. The house is a bit quirky but what one would expect for a beach cottage. We really enjoyed the nightly fire pit out front, and convenient location to a few restaurants and general market for basics. Nell was a very communicative host, and was quick to respond to several of our inquiries. Ultimately, we would stay here again, but on not such a busy weekend as the automobile/trailer traffic on the beach was constant, and not very safe for our young children to be playing out front. **We have heard that the city is trying to put a stop to vehicle beach access within the next year or two...

Oceano beach house
We drove up from LA to celebrate my Mother’s 95th birthday. We wanted a place on the beach that was big enough to host a dinner with relatives that live in the area. Cozy Midcentury cottage with big deck and fire pit right on the beach, overlooking the ocean and nice courtyard with new gas grill in the front. We had a delightful time. Highly recommend.

We absolutely loved this place. From the retro entry that reminded me of the Three's Company apartment to the sand backyard three feet from the slider that provided breathtaking views and access to the beach. An absolute wonderful setting! We had a wonderful time and would absolutely book again.

Slice of Heaven in Oceano!
What a unique gem! The layout was so roomy and comfy. Plenty of beds and seating for watching a movie. The fireplace was a added bonus! The location doesn't get any closer to the sand! The home was well stocked with plenty of plush towels and bedding and everything we needed to cook a wonderful meal while eating on the back porch with toes in the sand and the waves and sunset in plain sight! The owner was so kind and quick to help with anything we needed. Ample parking! ATV rentals for sand dunes 2 mins walk away. We will definitely be back! p.s. Our Dog loved it too!

Real beach cottage
Family get together in this cottage at the beach, the sand is lovely and soft, perfect for little ones to build and dig. The distance from the public area allows family privacy. The house is an old fashioned cottage in the sand. Summery and fun for all. Good location.

We super enjoyed our weekend in the 3 bedroom (Sanddollar) property on the beach. As some have said - it's a bit different (layout etc) but very clean and the location is great. We had fires in the firepit every evening, BBQ'd dinners and really got to relax. Thanks to Nell for such a great experience.

Oceano Spring Break
We had a nice stay. Location is great if you plan to ATV/ Dune buggy etc… in Oceano since the house is right at the entrance. Not a great location if you want to hang out on the beach of if you have young kids because of all the cars on the beach. The house had everything you could need and the intentions are good but the house is very old and the decor is in desperate need of updating. I love old things and live in a 1940 house but all the old furniture etc… makes the house look run down and dirty even though it was clean. Make sure you check out the pictures online and know what you are getting. Adjacency to beach is great, beach is beautiful and fire pit was nice. Nothing to do in Oceano except for off roading on beach but close to Pismo and other places for easy day trips.

Thank you for the honest and kind feedback, and in spite of it all letting me know you found it to be clean and you had a good stay Yes, spring break is always a busy time on beaches. Off-roading on the dunes has been closed due to the impassable creek, so crowds of vehicles (all street licensed, no ATV's) were on the beach. Driving on the beach from Pier Avenue south, in front of the homes, is scheduled to end starting next year. Kids will finally be able to play safely on the beach, not only on the upper beach where vehicles are now prohibited, but also at the water's edge. We are installing a new slider for the dining room today. and will be updating the furniture.

Awesome Beach Bungalow!
We are pretty spoiled since we own a lux beach house in Costa Rica, but we LOVED Nell's beach house. It is nothing grand or fancy, but cute, cozy, and so close to the surf it is nearly buried in dunes. Location couldn't be better, 100 steps from the main vehicle entrance to the beach. Perfect getaway for a couple or a couple with 2 kids. The master bedroom is great, although the two other bedrooms are tiny and one is accessed from the other. Loved the big fireplace inside and firepit outside. Wish we could have stayed for a few seasons not just a few days...

Perfect for ATV drivers; heads up on the pet fees
Sand Dollar is located a stone’s throw from the entrance of Oceano/Pismo Beach Sand Dunes State Park, which makes this rental ideal for four-wheeling families, although check the beach website if that is your plan when renting because I understand there is a timeline for closing the beach to motor vehicles due to environmental concerns. Note that you share the area between your unit and the beach with the other renters in the adjacent unit so the sitting area just beyond the deck in front of your dining room window is actually reserved for the other rental. There is another patio table/chairs on the north end of the yard for your unit. The one-cook kitchen is well stocked with pots, utensils and plates and the vintage unit is decorated in a charming shabby chic style. We arrived on a sunny 83 degree day in late September, there was lots of beach traffic but it was very quiet in the rental, the sand dunes must act as a sound suppressor. We watched the beach police chasing down speeders and, sadly, a couple of ambulances racing down the beach so be wary if you are a walker…most beach drivers are very considerate but some are complete ***holes when it comes to pedestrians. Keep the kids and the dogs close by. There was an issue with the dog fee. Sand Dollar is listed as pet-friendly and we clearly stated during the booking procedure that we wanted to bring 2 pugs with us, each weighing about 15 lbs. We knew there was a fee and when we saw $150 charge for pets on our invoice, we thought we were covered. However, the owner contacted us on the second day of our three-day, two- night stay and told us that VRBO had made a mistake and the actual cost was $150 for EACH dog. She was willing to take a check or cash and could stop by to pick it up or we could leave on the counter when checking out (she contacted me through the VRBO app so I was pretty sure she was legit). I explained to her that we don’t carry checks much anymore and, cash-wise, we had not planned on this expense when we left home so I offered to venmo the money but she wasnt set up to accept venmo . Then I suggested we go through VRBO but apparently VRBO wants any additional charges to be handled by the owner. I offered to mail a check but at that point, she said not to worry, it was her mistake not noticing earlier that we were bringing 2 dogs, so she would forgo the $150 charge. Good idea to communicate with owner before booking to ascertain fees.
