Breath of fresh air

I had various stays at various hotels and the most impressive of them all was the Dunn Inn. The hotel staff were fantastic, English was strong and guidance was above and beyond. Jacob always did everything he could to help accommodate ally requests. Such as free ironing service, baggage hold service after check out and much more. The Alma restaurant is the BEST food and service in all of San Jose! I cannot Speak enough about the wonderful decor and environment of the restaurant. A cross the street from the hotel is a lovely and very affordable artesian Cafe / restaurant with live acoustic music and an amazing back deck. I highly recommend both. This District is a small and cute few blocks that has a lot of vitality and almost no panhandlers. The room was four star or more as I stayed in the Junior Suite. I think the single rooms are much smaller in comparison to the Suite so I suggest the extra few $$ for the Suite but otherwise if your budget conscious I think the normal rooms will be just as quality as the Suite I had. The cleaning staff was top notch, in proper uniforms and very kind all the time as well. Ample towels, super strong AC and WiFi. I will never go to another hotel in San Jose other than the Dunn Inn! Gracias.

Close to downtown walking distance

Disappointed with new rule change no guests are allowed at the hotel anymore since 8/01/2016 so if your going to San Jose for it's really only one attraction (because the city is ugly and congested) you will need another hotel room somewhere else if you want a guest to join you. I had to get a second room at the morazan. Which is closer to the ray but the Dunn is much nicer. I like the Dunn the staff is very friendly and helpful but I hate there new policy change! Terrible rule to have in the gringo gulch

You are always welcome to bring guests to our hotel, but the policy you are referring to, is that we do not accept prostitutes in the property. If that's the traveling motivation, we are clearly not an option.

Perfect location, clean and friendly staff. Really good restaurant for dinner and breakfast attached to the Hotel itself.

I've been to this hotel several times since March 2015 (3 or 4 times) and it remains a top choice for any stay in downtown San Jose. My most recent stay was in mid-late Oct 2016. I booked a weekend stay and ended up extending by a day or two to go on some excursions. The property is well kept, in very good condition, with good amenities, and an excellent staff. The bed is comfortable and the bathrooms are very good. The location is probably most bemoaned by other reviewers. However, I firmly believe that much the same can be said of many other area hotels -- even those closer to Avenida Central. I have come to know much of the staff -- admittedly by face more so than name. And, if there is one thing you can take away from Costa Rica; it is that people keep their jobs and is a source of stability in the everyday experience of Costa Rica. Benefits accrue to those who keep the relationships going. Book with supreme confidence! You will not be disappointed!

Extended

Pros: Good location and good value.
Cons: Room 15 needs to move the AC from blowing straight to the head.
Location: Many restaurants, supermarket, walking distance from attraction.
I extended my stay due to volcano eruption but I've already posted a review and definitely would stay here again.

GOOD!

Pros: Location, staff, room options. I prefer a very dark room and they have a couple of them.
Cons: The AC in room 15 blows directly where you lay your head and I could not sleep until they moved me to room 14 and it was great.
Love the location, convenient to local restaurants and shops. Walking distance to attractions. Great front desk staff, very friendly. Definitely would go back.

Employee arm strong you to get taxi they want

Bellman and front desk guys on Thursday sept 22nd got mad at me because i didnt took the taxi that they recomend

By policy we recommend to all our clients to take official cabs. In this particular case you asked front desk to call a cab for you. They normally write down the plate for security reasons or in case of a lost item. We regret you didn't enjoy your stay with us.

This place was okay. The staff was not particularly friendly. There was one gentleman at the hotel cleaning and doing maintenance that was a pleasure to run into a few times. He always had a smile and a friendly comment to give. The description said that it has laundry facilities which is why we chose the place. It actually just has laundry service during the day. As others have described, the breakfast is not great. You get coffee, toast, juice, fruit, and a slice of processed ham and really salty cheese. For the location, it was actually fairly quiet.
