Everything is top quality. Most bang for the buck.

Posted 16-Aug-2016
Pros: Absolutely everything. I would consider this hotel as family friendly as well as romantic. Food, room, garden, service..everything is top notch.
The moment we entered the parking lot, we felt that the hotel maintains quality. Checkin was smooth, quick and friendly. Staff was very helpful. Got upgraded to a better room for free without asking. Received help with taking luggage to the room. The room and bathroom were pristine clean. Furnishings in the room were top quality. Room had a balcony that opened up to their garden view. it was late in evening and the garden was well lit. It looked beautiful. Dinner was available in their restaurant. Service was very cordial, warm and excellent. Food quality was very good. The next morning my son and I went for a walk into their garden at 6AM. I was surprised how large it was. We spent almost 1 hour exploring variety of plants and walking trails. Breakfast was delicious with variety of fresh fruits, baked goods, eggs/meat (for non-veg folks), breads, cakes, juices, coffee, tea etc We checkout later in the morning. Checkout was very smooth as expected.

Beautiful Hotel!

Posted 03-Aug-2016
Pros: It is fairly close to the airport, easily accessible by car or taxi, the staff are very hospitable, and it is a clean and beautiful place!
Cons: The bed was a bit soft for my preference, and although there were several pillows, I had difficulty finding a comfortable one.
This hotel provided the perfect environment for a peaceful, relaxing stay. The buildings and grounds are so beautiful, well cared for, and just asking to be enjoyed! I especially loved walking through the gardens and seeing the many lovely and fascinating flowers and trees. Words aren't enough to express the beauty and comfort of this place. The breakfast was very good, the staff so helpful and friendly, and most were bilingual, fortunately! Each part of the building and grounds was very clean, and provided something of interest which captured my attention. During my stay the area was very quiet at night and for the most part during the day as well, except when the school next door had recess time, the happy sounds of children laughing and playing! The private balcony was great for reading, napping, and enjoying the view of gardens and mountains.

Gorgeous hotel and gardens near San Jose

Posted 14-May-2016 on Orbitz
Pros: Gardens, pool, buildings, food and price.
Cons: Noise insulation.
This hotel is a diamond in the rough. You won't believe how beautiful the facilities and gardens are. Great food and pool and very reasonably priced. Lots of street and school noise so ask for room on the back.

A quick relaxing oasis

Posted 11-May-2016 on Hotels
I have been in Costa Rica working hard for six weeks. When I had days off, I came to Hotel Bougainvillea and always enjoyed the property. From the great gym and pool to the relaxing gardens, it is a perfect quick getaway from San Jose or a first/last day when visiting CR. Be sure to visit the nearby Toucan Rescue Ranch- a 15 ride from the hotel. Best of all the staff is friendly and accommodating.

A beautiful oasis near San Jose!

Posted 17-Mar-2016 on Hotels
We had eight rooms for one night with a small group tour from NC. All of my guests enjoyed the hotel and the beautiful grounds. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was just wonderful. We were enthralled by the lavish gardens and sculptures and the remarkable wood furniture and rock collections in the hotel. It was just lovely all the way around and the personal service matched the surroundings.

Good but needs improvements

Posted 16-Mar-2016 on Hotels
The hotel is very good and it's premises are in general well kept. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The downsides is that it has not air conditioning in the rooms and the wifi in the room is bad. I only got good wifi signal at the lobby and the restaurant. For the high price the hotel charges, the wifi should be great and the rooms should have air conditioning units.

A wonderful hotel in a 10 acre garden

Posted 14-Mar-2016
Pros: The garden
Cons: More variety with the food.
Location: Walk down into the town, or up to the little market and restaurant on the left. San Jose is a jumble of homes, churches and factories thrown together
The staff at the Bougainvillea welcome and get to know each and every one of their guests. You feel like you are a guest in their own home. The rooms are clean and spacious with great views of the mountain or the garden - I had a tree top view of a flowering Margarita tree - sensational! The dining is good and the prices comparable to most restaurants. Don't expect a bargain as there are none in Costa Rica. However, the breakfast is free, substantial and you can have as much as you want of eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt, pastries etc. But a stay in the Bougainvillea is completely wasted if you do not take a moment or hours to walk through the garden on your way to the lovely pool, tennis courts or meeting areas. The birds will be calling you and you might trip over a few bird watchers if you are not careful.
