Beautiful garden with a very relaxing pool

Beautiful garden with a very relaxing pool, but the location is not the best for a first time traveller.

I was not impressed

We did not get a warm welcome when we arrived. The room was ok but after the second day the hallway started to smell really bad. A pipe must have burst or something. The service at the bar an grill was so bad that my husband and I laughed about it. We will not be staying there again.

Great hotel convenient to airport

Very nice stay with Expedia VIP treatment. Nice hotel amanities and good breakfast, beautiful ground and pool. Nice staff. Only complaint is the restaurant price is too expensive.

great facilities, friendly and helpful staff

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The facilities were great. Our room was spacious and clean. Please note when catching a taxi from the front of the hotel to request a red taxi with a meter, the other taxis will rip you off and charge you double. Not the hotels fault at all, would just hate for others travelling to be hit with the same thing :)

Comfortable, but no easy access to down town areas

Pros: Premier level, Clean, neat grounds, nice breakfast.
Cons: Guest information made available in the rooms in English as well. No information in the rooms regarding services and hours, nor phone use info.
Location: Plenty to do 45-2 hours away. Mercado Central is 30-45 minutes.
We had premier level upgrade booked through expedia, which was very nice. I understand we are in a foreign country; however, would be nice if staff spoke fluent english. Very difficult to communicate, as my spanish is very limited. Would recommend bilingual welcome/directions/hotel instructions. There we none in the room, so we were unable to dial room service, or the desk, no instructions on phone use either. Amy, in the premier room, level 6, was extremely helpful and very nice. We enjoyed the breakfasts, room service is poor, along with the quality of food on room service menu. We ate at Miyako restaraunt, which was pricey, and since they were getting ready for a scheduled booked event, service was rather poor. El Rancho Grill by the pool, was the BEST of all, and Orlando was an excellent waiter. However, this restaraunt is only open until 6p. A lady at the service desk during day hours was nice, and helpful. Our experiences with Amy and Orlando, are the reason I gave a 5 rating to staff. No one else seemed to make any efforts to be helpful, nor care. If you are looking for isolation, this place is it, since it's near a freeway, and traffic is very heavy, plan on taking at least an hour to go to central market, airport, and many tours. Taxis are expensive, and uber is an option. I will definitely stay elsewhere next visit, simply for convenience.

Beautiful property on a great location

Pros: Location, gardens & breakfast
Cons: The slight cigarette smell in some rooms.
Location: Close to La Sabana, 8 minute drive to Escazu (depending on traffic).
It had been a while since My last stay at this hotel, as it is an older property and many newer hotels have opened in San Jose in the last 10 years. But I decided to try it since it is well located for my business appointments and saw a good deal on Expedia. I was upgraded upon arrival, being an Expedia gold member. Got a spacious king bed room on the third floor. My room was very quiet so I got a good two night sleep. Lots of wood around, both in public areas and in the room giving it a cozy but elegant atmosphere. The breakfast buffet has good quality and a lot of choices. My only complain was a slight cigarette smell, which comes, in my opinion, from this hotel being a smoking allowed property many years ago and this smell is very difficult to go away. This because Barcelo is a Spanish chain and they used to allow smoking, being probably a little late in changing this policy. I noted this to the front desk associate. I will definitely stay again at this property at the same price level.

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff.

This is by far the nicest hotel I stayed while in Costa Rica. Everything about it was fantastic. Lots of food options, room service, a beautiful swimming pool. The room was clean, bed was comfortable. Everything you would expect out of a great nights stay. Breakfast in the morning was great and if you have a shuttle and miss breakfast, they'll pack one for you. Airport shuttle was easy and painless. Worth every penny. I can't rave enough about this place!

Nice hotel

Pros: location, room, outdoor area, amenities.
Cons: Food in the restaurant is tooooo expensive.
Location: near airport and hotel has shuttle bus to airport every 2 hours
Nice room and breakfast, nice yard and pool. room is clean and provide tooth brush and slippers. VIP floor has food and drinks, they are so good.
