Worst experience ever!

Got to reception and the girl was not friendly at all . The food was awful and expensive . The rooms spelled terrible like mold !!!

The hotel was beautiful, the room was spacious! Pool was clean & relaxing. Wait staff in the restaurant where wonderful. Front desk staff need better training & communications skills. Samantha in particular seemed as if she always had something better to do then deliver good customer service. I was in hotel for 12 nights so I had plenty of time for observation. Carlos(manager) was wonderful & helpful. Maria Jose who prepared our eggs every morning was a doll. I saw many guest including myself confused in the elevator as no one told us to insert room key to access floor. After 10 days the front desk gave me a card for towels at the pool! Really? I was not aware I needed a card. Garage staff was nice too. Overall I loved my stay however more than once I bite my tongue as my sister told me I should expect poor customer service as Costa Rican lack this skill. Being Barcelo is a high quality chain of hotels I would wish they trained their staff to deliver & honor their reputation!

Nice hotel, good location if you are driving

Pros: secure free car parking, breakfast was amazing
great experience, check in was a bit strange as we stayed on the club level so i was directed to the 4th floor for check in instead of the main reception. Hotel was clean and smoke free. Breakfast was very good especially the local dishes.

Rude staff, terrible food, but comfortable bed

Pros: The bed was very comfortable.
Cons: The service and the food could be improved by a lot.
Location: The hotel is not near anything. It requires a cab to get anywhere, but there is a free airport shuttle.
The front desk staff was rude and brief at check-in. My name was even wrong on the breakfast tickets, but he seemed uninterested in speaking to us and was not hospitable at all! Wifi was inconsistent. Dinner was WAY overpriced and AWFUL. For two people, we paid $68 for dinner (which was the most expensive in all of our stay in Costa Rica) and it was disgusting. However, the bed was comfortable.

An "OK" hotel

Pros: The location seemed safe compared to other spots in San Jose.
Cons: Staff could be more attentive and friendly, rooms were outdated and did not smell good.
After driving through the mountains for 2.5 hours, I felt pretty queasy that day when checking in. Me and my husband had a little trouble figuring out where to park, but once we parked, walked up the steps from the garage and got to the front desk...we had to wait 3-5 minutes just to have someone acknowledge us (mind you there was only one other person at the counter and there were two people working the front desk). Finally we were greeted and we checked in, but when we got to our room it smelled like a car freshness, the smell was very strong and made me feel even worse. We went downstairs to get at the "sports bar", which according to the hours should of been opened, but were informed that they weren't and could eat outside by the pool. We went out to the pool and were then informed that we only had two options to choose from: Chicken nuggets or a Cheeseburger. I had the chicken nuggets and they tasted like they had been warmed up in a microwave and then sat around for a little while, the fries were good though. Since I wasn't feeling too well, we just sat in the room for the rest of the night and watched HBO on the TV which was extremely fuzzy. We luckily were only staying at this hotel because we had a flight in the morning and wanted to be close to the airport, which I guess served it's purpose.

We were in club premium room. The snaks were okay. Clean hotel. I think at the begining it was 5 stars hotel. I asked a receptionist for some help but he forgot about it. It was very dissapointing becoz i relyed on him. Good location and good free shuttle from the airport.

Relax during our CR adventures

We stayed 3 times here during our CR trip. Great choice! Very nice value as they provided everything we needed for the trip: comfortable beds, nice breakfasts, shuttle bus from and to airport, short distance to down town, friendly staff, etc.. We were upgrade to VIP level twice which was also a huge plus. The only minus is their taxi fee was expensive. Overall we will definetely be back!
