The agouti has a queen, a double, and a single bed in a loft, as well as a private bathroom with hot water. Here you will find a little piece of paradise nestled in the jungle alive with the melodious sounds of tropical birds and the gentle sound of the Mopan River flowing close by. Set apart from the village on a peninsula of the Mopan River, Cohune Palms is blessed with cool river breezes and a jungle setting. Being on the river and under gigantic palm trees certainly makes it feel far away from town - but the best part is that it is conveniently located just 2.5 miles outside of San Ignacio and is easily reached by taxi. While resting in one of the hammocks, swimming in the river, jumping off the rope swing, or watching iguanas and howler monkeys can all be done at Cohune Palms, most are here for the great many adventures waiting to be had in the area - visiting archaeological sites, exploring the famous ATM cave, ziplining, visiting waterfalls and butterfly farms, horseback riding, floating the river, cave tubing or birdwatching. Cohune Palms is an excellent base for the wide variety of tours and explorations in western Belize. All tours are easily arranged either by us or directly by you with one of the tour companies in San Ignacio. These can be booked in advance or we can call them in the day before at no extra cost. They all pick up and drop off at our place every day so no need to worry about transportation arrangements. Our restaurant features local and international cuisine, as well as local beer, wine and cocktails, and we are happy to cater to guests’ dietary and time preferences, serving breakfast as early as needed for timely departures on day trips. No AC but lots of fans. The manger set us up with a driver to Tikal for 120 US. I thought the price was average. Anna was an excellent cook and bartender and very friendly. We visited with our teens (14 and 16). It is such a beautiful location and we really enjoyed seeing wildlife up close! We saw agouti, river otters, howler monkeys, bats, toucans, and several other beautiful birds during our stay. The rope swing and being able to get in the river was very nice. Mike and the ladies at Cohune are so nice! Mike is very knowledgeable about the area and is happy to share. The food was also amazing! Highly recommend breakfast and dinner at the kitchen. We were a little worried about staying with no AC, but the cabana cools down nicely at night. We had no issues with biting insects. The cabana was tidy, just keep in mind it's has a thatched roof and louvered windows so a little dust might come in. Although the setting is beautiful next to the river and the grounds are pretty, the cabana leaves much to be desired. The cabana needs a deep cleaning, it was dusty and the bathroom was tired and dirty. The sheets were stained and a gecko had pooped on the clean bedding before checkin. There was a cockroach in our bathroom one evening, although the rustic style of the cabana means insects and geckos are a possibility. The food on site was overpriced so we didn't eat there, although others said it was mediocre. The bakery a few minutes down the road was excellent. Overall, for the expense of the property, you don't get many amenities and I would likely stay elsewhere next time. ##### Lana A.
