Birthday weekend in San Fran

Had a very pleasant experience with this Hotel, the staff was very nice when we checked in that we even got to check in early, the room was very clean and elegant, and it was in great proximity to everything we wanted to do.

Historic Hotel in Need of Help

This was the worst hotel experience we have had, and we travel frequently. From the dirty and dusty rooms to the water problems that lead to dirt spewing from old pipes in the shower to the broken AC to the tiny elevator servicing 7 floors to the complete lack of any responsive management (until the night before check out and we were there a week), we will not be returning, ever. A solid disappointment on all levels.

Lovely hotel in the heart of Union Square

Very comfortable clean room - with nice furnishings, bathroom and fridge was a bonus. Staff vrry friendly and helpful.

Great location, could be a better stay

Pros: Location is fantastic. Walking distance to central SF.
Cons: Fix the elevators, reduce ambient noise.
Location: You're next to Union Square and one minute from Main Street, so it suits both tourists and business travellers in the area.
Visited for a conference for 6 days. First room I was given was *incredibly* loud, to the point where headphones were insufficient to work - the room was street facing and single glazed. Wifi was also out of range in this room. I was moved to the rear of the hotel, which was much quieter and had internet connectivity. The room was attractive, spacious and well laid out. Unfortunately I slept terribly: the fridge and air con made horrendous droning noises that would come-and-go in spurts throughout the night. I was als woken up on two occasions around 5am by the phones making some kind of garbled static noise (not ringing; I ended up unplugging the power). During my stay only one elevator/lift worked, which meant long waits or a 6-story stair climb, but I assume that's temporary.

Pros: The location and price.
Location: It was on the Powell line so we took the cable car back from our adventures.
It was an old world charm in San Francisco, the room was large and quiet. The added charm of having a restaurant and bar in the hotel was a plus. Mary who was part of the wait staff was very good.

The hotel is in a prime location being right by union square and in the middle of downtown SF. But we had problems with the heating/ac unit in our room, the staff didn’t get things done til late and the elevator was sketchy. We had asked the staff 3 or 4 times that our heater didn’t work in our room. And us being not used the the SF cold nights, we wanted warmth. After the 4th time, they sent a technician to take a look. After, the unit still didn’t work the way it was supposed to because it was still blowing cold air even though it was in heater mode. So we just turned it off. The staff is nice and friendly but they never followed through until the last night we were staying there. Not good. Either the staff didn’t follow through, or the technician, or they just need a new form of communication. At the time of our stay, one of the two elevators was under construction, going through repairs. The other elevator was a bit sketchy. We’d have to wait 5-10 minutes on the elevator to arrive to our floor. We only waited twice. After that, we took the stairs the rest of our stay.

Beds horrible

The bed was so uncomfortable, no blanket just thick like sheets. So cold. Bathroom and room was cute. You have to pay additional for parking like $60 a day. Ridiculous. No free parking.

Great Staff and Central Location

Pros: The staff and location.
Location: Very close to many restaurants, shopping, and public transportation.
The entire staff at the hotel were amazing, everyone from the front desk to the cleaning service were very friendly and helpful. The hotel's location is very centrally located and we loved the hustle and bustle of the area. Some may say the street noise it too much, but we didn't mind at all, that's what you get when you choose to stay in the city.
