Incredible location!

Posted 13-Nov-2017
It doesn’t get better than staying a block away from Union Square San fran, specially if you are staying for a couple nights and want to be in the center of all the good happenings. Restaurants, cafes , shopping, Union squre, cable car, everything to need it’s at your fingertips only steps away. Service was excellent, the doorman went above and beyond to help us park by the front door given the fact that we had cars, cable cars surrounding us! Only thing I would point out was the bathroom condition in our room as perhaps bath and toilet could use some upgrading. It was a little challenging flushing the toilet and the bathtub was stained and looked like simple washing won’t help it look better. Other than that excellent service and locations.Spacious rooms too!

Historic hotel

Posted 13-Nov-2017
Gorgeous lobby and bar area. The rooms are small but so is everything in San Francisco. Rooms were clean with very comfortable bed and pillows. Rooms are simple relative to the elegance of the historic hotel. We are at the restaurant and enjoyed room service a few times.

Too small

Posted 12-Nov-2017
The bathroom was too small. When you sit on the toilet your body rubs against the toilet paper fixture. There are no shelves to put your toiletries within reach. The sink has no counter top to put toiletries on. The top of toilet tank is slanted so that can’t be used for toiletries either. The outlet is above the toilet so that any blow dryer cord rubs against the dirty toilet seat etc.

Old but small

Posted 06-Nov-2017
They first put us in a room as big as a cell on Alcatraz! We asked to be moved and they did move is to a king room (a little bigger!) Very noisy hotel, which I’d expect for an older hotel and being in Powell, but the walls are thin and you hear EVERYTHING!!

Thank you for sharing your review, Lee. Being one of the oldest buildings in the heart of the city is a blessing and a curse! We're nestled in the hustle and bustle of Union Square, but as we continue to maintain the living history of the building, we'll make sure take a deep look in minimizing the noise pollution in each guest room. Thank you again for visiting us and for sharing your honest feedback, Lee!

Could do better

Posted 06-Nov-2017
Pros: The location only.
Cons: Clean under the beds and furniture if you are inviting your guest to go on the yoga mat you provide in the room.
I think the rooms are getting old and not as clean as they could be. I was also charged an extra fee on top of the package I paid to Expedia. That is called cheating. Will not stay at a Kimpton again.

Thank you for staying with us and sharing your review. We'll make sure to get with our Housekeeping leaders about the condition of the room. From top to bottom, it should be clean and comfortable and we apologize for falling short of this and appreciate you calling our attention to it. Also, we want to make sure our rates and inclusions are shared with transparency--- we know that some guests prefer to book with our booking partners (such as Expedia), so we will continue to work with our 3rd party partners in keeping the booking experience seamless and informative as possible. If not here in San Francisco, we hope to welcome you back to a Kimpton Hotel in the future and get another chance to regain your confidence in us. Thank you again.

very small rooms, noisy and unhelpful staff.

Posted 31-Oct-2017
Cons: Everything
Location: Awesome location -
Rooms are very small bathroom is tiny. Pictures online are not a true feel for what you arrive too. The rooms need updating. If you are looking for an experience from times past (recent past -not historical) then this is your place.

Posted 28-Oct-2017
Pros: Location, lobby Bar, Scalas
Cons: Pain when it is busy, elevators slow
Location: Union Square, so shopping everywhere and shorts walks to all kinds of good eats and drinks
We have stayed at the Drake several times because of its location and the restaurant Scala's Bistro

Pros: staff was very nice.
Cons: Bathroom should be more modern. Change the pictures in the room with something that will cheer you up
Location: Close to starbucks, chinatown walking distance. A lot of shopping place around the area.
The rooms are small but clean. I think the hotel is old and they just renovated it. Bathroom is outdated. The pictures inside the room is not pleasing but look scary. I have an eerie feeling looking at it. Elevators are small and slow. But the staff are very nice and helpful. The hotel is very accessible to transportation, a lot of eateries around the hotel. Shopping area very close to the hotel.
