Nice hotel in a great location

Pros: The kindness and professionalism of the staff, the cleanliness of the room, and the great location.
Cons: It is an older hotel, and some of the carpeting is looking a bit worn. Nothing else comes to mind.
Location: Union Square, cable cars, theatre district, restaurants are all within a few minutes walk. Excellent location.
I was in SF for a day. The staff were great - gave me an early check in - and were very welcoming and informative. The room was tiny (to be expected in SF), but clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The hotel is close to union square, and to public transportation. Great value!

Hotel is in great location near Union Square, tour bus locations and cable/trolley/train stations. Great staff at hotel. Clean upgraded room with very comfortable beds. It is in very safe location and there is a public parking lot across the street. For 24 hour parking it cost $35. There is also a rental car location there. You will not be disappointed.

Charming older hotel

Friendly staff, comfortable room, good location, restaurants nearby, close to attractions. Comfortable bed, clean bathroom. Parking across street in lot. Complimentary coffee downstairs. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Would stay there again!

Pros: Great location, comfortable and homely.
Cons: Must arrange to serve breakfast
Location: Downtown SFO near union square - excellent for shopping and sightseeing near bay area.
Indeed a pleasant stay, very comfortable.Wonderful staff, great location.

Well Kept Older Small Hotel Centrally Located

Pros: It's a relatively small hotel and the service is personal. My room was in the back, so I was insulated from street noise, an earlier problem.
Cons: The in-room coffee maker is difficult to use, something I've never experienced in other hotels. Management agreed I wasn't the first to make note.
Location: Very centrally located, convenient to transit, theaters, shopping, and restaurants
The King George is very reasonably priced for a centrally located hotel in San Francisco. It's not a luxury hotel, but extremely clean - the bathroom is spotless, and the bed is comfortable. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Two computers in the lobby are available for browsing and airline boarding passes. Also, luggage storage is available.

Was very disappointed after reading the good reviews. Checkin was slow, inaccurate and cold. Room was very small and bed uncomfortable. The one time I needed to contact front desk it took forever and then he was very cold. Would not recommend. Much better places to stay in Union Square for the same $.

Photos are misleading, hotel is old and dated

Pros: The only good thing about this hotel is its central location, but it does come with a price as mornings can be noisy
I booked a deluxe double, and the photos I saw for that type of room suggested a very spacious room. I was also promised as part of my itinerary a complementary bottle of sparkling wine on arrival, which I thought was a nice touch. Upon arrival I was very disappointed to find a small room that only resembled the one I saw with its general décor and furniture, and there was no wine. I thought there may have been an error and I was possibly given the wrong room, yet when I went down to reception the staff confirmed no error and didn't seem to know anything about the missing bottle of wine. The room had no view and was noisy most mornings. The bed was reasonably comfortable. I run out of body wash and requested some more, but the hotel didn't have any and was only able to provide additional hair wash, lotion, and moisturiser. The hotel in general is in a great location but seemed old and dated. I didn't check out any of its facilities i.e. bar or restaurant so cannot comment on those. It was my first ever stay in San Francisco, so I don't know how this hotel compares to the many others in the same area, but to me it felt overpriced and not good value for money. I wouldn't recommend to stay there.

Excellent location and the most comfortable beds!

The King George Hotel is in an excellent location close to Powell St Station making for easy Bart transfer from the airport, and the Cable Cars (if you can get on), as well as Union Square and and all of the many shops. The hotel is old with a spiral staircase which will test anyone's fitness if you have to use it. The rooms are smallish but with the most comfortable beds. The rooms are kept very clean but the carpet could stand to be replaced. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There are lots of dining options close by including Pinecrest Diner across the road and if you want an authentic bagel and lox there's David's Diner just up the road. Overall this was an excellent experience and we stay there again.

Great quaint spot in Union Square

Pros: Friendly, comfortable, really interesting.
Cons: A bit noisy.
Location: Union Square and all of San Francisco!
Very warm and comfortable historic hotel with wonderful beds. Very clean. Few services but in the heart of vibrant Union Square. Excellent staff - front desk, concierge, room - even when busy. We would definitely stay there again!
