Good location,

Posted 21-Nov-2017
Pros: Great location. Close to the Hilton where my conference was.
Cons: My biggest complaint was the noise outside of my window at 4:30 am when the construction began on the roof next door.
Location: Union Square shopping at Westfields mall
The King George Hotel has a lot of character and charm and is close to shopping and conferences. The building is older but the room amenities are still current and up to date.

Rebecca, Thank you for your review and for staying with us at the King George. I'd like to apologize for the construction noise. We are in contact with the builders and hopefully we can find a way to abate the early morning noise. When it is finished, we will have a beautiful new restaurant next door. We hope you return to us next year when our bar is operational and the construction in the neighborhood is lessened.

Not what was expected

Posted 19-Nov-2017
Hotel is in a great location. Rooms are small and there is no fridge. Whilst this is probably the same for other hotels in SF unfortunately there was some renovations at the time and there were issues with getting hot water over the last 2 days of our stay. Once renovations are finished perhaps with the right price we would stay again die to location.

Place to stay while at a 3 day conference

Posted 17-Nov-2017
Pros: Location. My conference was a block away and the King George room rates were significantly more competitive than the conference hotel.
Location: Easy access to BART, cable cars and Market Street trolleys.
Good value for the money: welcoming staff, clean and comfortable room, more than adequate WiFi for this IT professional. There is some lite construction going on, though it did not affect me in the areas I was in. Instant hot water was very much appreciated in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. Special thanks to the morning staff on my day of departure who found a large garbage bag for me to cover my luggage: there was a heavy rain storm and I had to walk to BART 3 blocks away.

Cute hotel with a lot of personality!

Posted 13-Nov-2017
Pros: It was in a great location as far as walking distance to great shopping and yummy food!
Cons: Can't wait to see it once the construction is done!
Location: All of the great shopping on Market Street is less than a 5 minute walk and most uber's to cool places cost me less than $10.
Booked a quick weekend business trip and enjoyed the location of the hotel as well as the personality. There was extensive construction going on inside the hotel, but I enjoyed being able to come and go easily. A few reviews mentioned the volume of people outside. I was on the highest floor (9th) and noticed that the guests and hotel itself were quiet. Part of the conditions of staying in a large city are the outside street noise that will distracting. That is not controllable. I felt for the price the noise was bearable. I would recommend this couple to a young single or a couple looking for a hotel with personality, understanding that you're staying in a big city.

Mich, Thank you! I'm glad we could be part of an excellent visit to San Francisco. Our lobby renovation should finish up within the next two weeks and we can't wait to show off our new lobby and bar. We hope you return to stay with us again.

Perfect for Union Square if you don't mind small

Posted 12-Nov-2017
Pros: Proximity to Union Square and great starting point to get to other places
Cons: I'm sure the lobby will look great once finished. Fridges in the room could have been colder (we turned it up to max). Install Airconditioning.
Location: Pubs, restaurants, shopping
I though this was quite a find for Union Square. Rooms were very small but well maintained. Was worried as I'd read a few reviews about noise from alley at night, but this seems to have been resolved and it was lovely and peaceful at night. Hotel was undergoing renovations, so lobby was a mess. On some occasions, water for shower took a while to heat up, but it always did eventually.

Janet, I'm glad your trip to the Bay Area went well and that we could be a part of that. We have been working diligently with the city to keep our hotel area quiet and peaceful and the results are beginning to show. We are working on upgrading the antiquated boiler system here and we should be seeing immediate changes to our hot water as well.

Not as advertised!

Posted 04-Nov-2017
Pros: Not much
Location: Good transportation and shopping a few blocks away.
When we arrived mid-morning (off a cruise ship) we were told that we could not check in until sometime after 3 o'clock but the clerk did store our bags behind the counter. We still had to wait when we got back at 3 as the room we were to get had not been cleaned. The only room we could get then turned out to face the noisy street which we weren't warned about. From about 10 PM on until around 3 AM the constant yelling and honking from the street did not provide us with a good night's sleep. The louvered glass in the bathroom did not close very well and the bathroom door did not latch. The ground floor lobby was being renovated Long overdue) and half was behind plastic sheets. Other than the quite comfortable bed, we were extremely disappointed. Definitely not as not worth the rating or the high price we paid for 2 nights.

Horrible

Posted 03-Nov-2017
The hotel is NOTHING like what they show online. The rooms are TINY, the bathroom is extremely tiny. Nothing compared to what i had booked. Extremely disappointing, it sucks!

Pros: Excellent location, reasonably priced, friendly and helpful staff.
I needed a hotel in the area, because I was scheduled to attend a conference in Union Square. Many of the hotels in that area are very costly. King George is an economical choice.

Centrally located

Posted 27-Oct-2017
Pros: Quaint, clean, and well decorated.
Cons: Friendly staff, but usually had to wait several minutes for service at the front desk.
Location: Very central location. Easy to find and navigate with GPS.
The hotel was a nice balance of old and new. Rooms were small, but clean, comfortable, and well decorated. I appreciate how the decor incorporated some of the original design. The lobby was being renovated, so it felt small and cramped. It can take awhile for the (one and small) elevator.

Not at all what we expected. Website deceptive!

Posted 26-Oct-2017
Pros: Close to Union Square and transportation.
Cons: Tell the truth on your website. Hire professional front desk staff. Replace the windows so you don’t hear the racket all night long.
Location: Great location. Close to everything.
We stayed at the Bristol Hotel in San Diego, another Greystone Hotel, and it was very classy. Loved the Winston Lounge. So, we booked this hotel in SF, thinking we’d experience the same. Very bad choice! The 1st floor was torn apart (website said “soft refresh” but there was nothing in the lobby but the counter and a desk. No Winston”s lounge; they served wine and cheese is a room on the 2nd floor. Very tacky! There was outrageous noise all night long, people screaming and singing in the alley below the windows at 3am and it was relentless. There is construction going on next door and the workers start at 6am. Many of the desk staff are unattentive to their customers, bordering on rude. You can stand at the counter for 5 minutes and they don’t acknowledge that you are there. It’s as if you are invisible. They don’t know the answer to simple questions. If you want a good nights sleep, a classy lounge on the premises and a friendly front desk staff, do not stay here.

Allow me to apologize for your miserable experience at the King George. We will definitely take your words to heart. We have worked with the city to keep the alley clear, and any behavior you mentioned by our desk staff will not be tolerated. I just began here as the Front Office Manager and I assure you our team will provided immediate and excellent service for our guests. Our lounge and lobby will be completed by the end of this month and it we certainly be less of an eyesore and an excellent additional amenity for staying at our premises.
