Great location

Posted 17-Nov-2017
The hotel is in a great location, there is a cable car stop outside the hotel which will take you to fisherman’s wharf. There are loads of shops and restaurants close by The hotel is very basic but if like me your just using it as a place to sleep and shower then it is perfect. They do offer a light breakfast which consists of cereal, toast and muffins, tea/coffee and juice it’s very basic but better than offering nothing

Upgraded room made all the difference in our stay

Posted 01-Nov-2017
Location: Great location! We were told not to walk too far south into the Tenderloin district, but otherwise seemed like a great place to stay.
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Stratford for two nights for my 30th birthday. I let the hotel know ahead of time and they were able to upgrade our room (I believe Room 401). It was obvious that this had once been two separate rooms with a shared bathroom, but they had made one room into a living room/bar area. My husband and I walked by another room being cleaned and it was VERY small - just enough room for a bed. So we got very lucky with this room upgrade I think. When I checked out and told the front desk which room I was checking out of, he was surprised and even said that we were lucky because that is usually the room used for the owner's family when visiting. Both front staff that I dealt with (one named Anish) were very friendly, helpful, and welcoming, contrary to what I had read on reviews. The woman running the breakfast was quite rude when I asked a question about the choice of cereal (they did have gluten-free Cheerios, which was a life saver as a Celiac). Breakfast was quite plain, but did the trick.

Great location near BART station

Posted 27-Oct-2017
Pros: BART nearby, restaurants around, convenient location, functional room.
Cons: Power was tripping in the bathroom, had to reset the GCFI every day. Shower was leaking a bit. BAthroom exhaust vent was a bit dusty.
Location: Plenty to do: go car nearby, restaurants, pubs, cable car, embarcadero, walking, running, biking.....
I spent 3 nights over there for business. I picked it because it was well under the price of other hotels and had a queen bed with desk and own bathroom. Don't expect a huge room though. It is tiny like any other rooms in San Francisco but sufficient. Internet access was speedy, no issues there. They have a free continental breakfast where you can have toasted bread, jam, cereals, some fruits, and more importantly coffee and tea. Choices are limited though (no PB). The location on Powell is great. You have a ton of bars, restaurants and grocery stores around. Also very close to many fancy shopping areas. All in all, I didn't mind staying there and it probably be my choice again if I have to get back to San Francisco.

Hotel with no air conditioner and noisiness

Posted 28-Sep-2017
It is noisy all the time facing street cars and music performers on the street below your hotel. It is so hot in the room and on the corridor all day long because there are no air conditioner in the rooms and in the hotel. It was very uncomfortable. Do not stay here during summer. The front desk staff is unfriendly. He or she does not give you any receipt unless you ask. Do not expect anything good for the continental breakfast. The tiny bottle of water costs you 2 dollars in the room. It costs you only 24 cents if you buy one at Trader Joe’s near this hotel. It is not worth paying.

Location, location, location

The hotel is conveniently located on the tramway close to Union Square and Powell Street Metro Station. We flew into San Francisco Airport, collected our luggage then hopped on the Metro to Powell and after a 5 minute walk we were checking in. We did a couple of all day tours from pick up points within short walking distance of the hotel. On the last day we had a late flight to Sydney. The hotel looked after our luggage whilst we spent the day on a self guided walking tour, taking in Jack Early Park, Lombard Street and Fishermans' Wharf. They staff were great, friendly, helpful and accommodating. We arrived a little early at check in but they went out of their way to find a room that had been readied. The breakfast (part of the room tariff) was adequate, however, it is best viewed as American rather than international. Overall a good place if you are visiting San Francisco for a few days.
