Mediocre

Posted 24-Jun-2017
Pros: The sauna was excellent. The housekeeping staff were very kind and professional.
Cons: Lots of improvements are needed.
Location: The location was fine.
The room was smaller than expected and very plain. The A/C had a regulator preventing the room from getting cooler than 72 degrees during the Summer. This is too hot for me and affected my sleep. Vending machines on multiple floors were broken. The hotel entry area looked nice, but the rest of the hotel needs renovation. They did offer laundry service, which was done nicely - and they had a concierge and bell hop. The restaurant was pretty decent and always very busy.

Not bad for the price.

Pros: Friendly and helpful front of office staff.
Cons: Breakfast in the 'attached' Grill Room very ordinary. Had to request a bath robe, normally not provided in non Premium rooms.
Excellent location in Union Sq. Older hotel with a few related issues, but generally quite ok. In future, I would opt for a Premium room.

Location: Location was great & central, Powell St station was very handy,
The people that made the comments about bed bugs should check their on living quarters, the AC worked fine for us for 10 days night & day, with the comments to down grade the hotel, location was great & central, Powell St station was very handy, BUT the biggest problem is the homeless people which the people that run San Francisco need to address and build them a place to live and feed and find them work, every shop had a sign wanting staff, whats the problem. BUT the biggest problem is the homeless people which the people that run San Francisco need to address and build them a place to live and feed and find them work, every shop had a sign wanting staff, whats the problem. If something is not done then tourist will bypass San Francisco which would be a pity.

Great location close to everything. Comfortable and clean hotel. Can get noisy from outside traffic and music but earplugs are supplied and it usually stops at 10pm

Disappointing

Posted 31-May-2017
Pros: leaving each day for work
Cons: The staff need to improve on guest services.
Location: Eat and shop
During the initial check-in the front desk wasn't welcoming at all nor was the overall staff. During the second week I had to come down each day and have my key card re-keyed and he was very friendly and I couldn't get upset. I've worked in the hotel industry for 10 years Corp. and hotel hospitality and each guest was greeted with a smile. I felt uncomfortable a lot of times, I second guest my choice of hotel and couldn't wait until check-out for good.

Pros: Location!
Cons: Regrettably, the wifi connection was a disaster; the only really bad point in the experience.
The experience was generally fine; easy and accommodating check-in, quiet room, reasonably prompt elevators, etc., and easy check-out. The only bad/frustrating point was the very poor wifi--login was slow, kept being required to repeat several times each day, downloads of everything were very slow, and some didn't work at all, especially for my iPad. The system is really far from usable, and not comparable at all to that of similar hotels, in our experience.

Great hotel and location for San Francisco

Posted 31-May-2017
Pros: Location , staff and decor. The friendly Concierge staff are very knowlegable and arranged two great tours for use - Napa valley and Yosemite
Cons: The Historic wing getting ready for a make-over.
Location: Many options for activities due to location - Blue Biscuit jazz club is near by along with restaurants bars and shopping . T
Reception staff were great especially Tony. who organised an upgrade for us. The concierge staff super helpful -John and Sheryl The new decor in the premier wing is looking really great.

Nice stay, once we switched rooms!

Posted 30-May-2017
First off, the hotel staff was exceptional and attentive. Our rating would be three stars if not for their immediate and professional attention when our room A/C did not work. We had just a one night stay before traveling back to the airport so we were hoping for a nice visit and accommodations in San Francisco. Our room was small and the floor was musty smelling, albeit very clean. On the 8th floor, it was very warm in the room (75 degrees) so we turned the A/C on and left for few hours. When we returned the room remained at 75 degrees and the A/C was not running. When we phoned the desk we were told that they would send their engineer up. He arrived in 5 minutes and since the A/C clearly wasn't working he made a phone call to have us move rooms if we would like. Granted it was 8:30 pm and we were tired and hadn't been able to unload our luggage yet because of being unsure what to do, but we were grateful to have been moved to the "newer wing" to a room that was double the size and clearly an upgrade. The bellboys were wonderful in helping us with our luggage each time. We had a pleasant and comfortable nights sleep in our "cool" room. Our luggage and car was retrieved with ease. The staff made our stay enjoyable. The older rooms are cozy, small, and clean, perfect for those who are spending most of the time in the city, but would suggest asking about the newer side if you plan on making your trip more about relaxing at the hotel.
