Nice hotel - close to everything
Older hotel with a lot of character. It was clean which is very important to me as a traveller. Since it's an older hotel, the room, bathroom, elevator and stairs are on the small/narrow side. I'm a small person so it didn't bother me at all but I could see how others would see it as a downside. The elevator was a bit on the slow side so I mainly used the stairs. My room (6th floor) overlooked other buildings so it was on the quiet side of the hotel. I stayed in November when it was cold and didn't need A/C so I found the temperature of the room comfortable. The wifi connection in the room was good. There was complimentary tea/coffee/water and cookies which was nice to have after a long day of sightseeing. It's a block away from Union Square which is convenient. The hop on/ hop off buses and cable car stop at Union Square so if that's what you like then you're in luck because it's so close. I like to walk (a bit faster than the average walker) and was able to walk to Chinatown, Lombard Street, and Fisherman's Wharf (within 20 - 35 minutes). The Chancellor is also a few minutes walk from the Powell Street BART station which is convenient for those who are using the BART to get from or to the airport. There are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops as well as shopping (Macy's, Saks Fifth, H&M, Uniqlo, etc) around the hotel. I didn't interact with the staff too much but when I did they were pleasant. Would stay again.
